Well, I usually go cheaper than that myself...
I find most in-ear models to be uncomfortable. Hence, I like the AKG K26P headphones. Awesome portable size, super comfortable, and they seal out noise really well. Also, the sound quality is amazing for the price. I love using mine for travelling. I think AXE Music sells them in town.
Another option is some of Grado's entry offerings, like the SR60 or SR80i (I want to own these after I demoed the SR60!). Most of Grado's heaphones are "open", so they do not seal out outside noise. The sound quality will blow your mind, however! You probably will be better off getting those online from the States. The Canadian prices on Grado headphones I have found to be inflated.

I was actually looking at those. Do you know if they sound good on non iPod MP3 players and laptops as well? I read that they were specially designed for ipods/iPhones so I was just wondering.

I have owned probably 30 different sets. Earbuds always drove me crazy because they either fall out, have horrible sound quality or hurt my ears. Then I found these Sony's:
by far the best ones I've ever seen, great sound quality, don't fall out, background noise reduction and most importantly they feel extremely comfortable. I know you will also get a fancy headset but I recommend these as well, I can wear them for hours and not even notice.

Well, it doesn't really matter what headphones you use, if you're listening to NIN it is going to sound awful.

they're great for everything. I said mp3/ipod specifically because you can get some DJ headphones that if you amplify them may sound better.
also, the noise cancellation is top notch. a friend of mine at work is a headphone/audiophile and he says its the best noise cancelling he's heard yet.
dont listen to the snotty headphone enthusiasts online who hate on monster. yes they are over priced but they're the best sound you can get frankly
also as an added bonus for iphones and other devices the dre's double as a headset. that makes them so amazing. i was on the train one morning listening to music and dialed up safari to find the # for stoney mazda, called them, and while talking to lady setup an appoinment while inputting into my calender. hung up and music comes back right away. amazing stuff, to me.

If your spending good $$ I'd stay away from the big name brands... Your just paying for the name. As said earlier I'd look into AKG.

Whatever man. The score for the Social Network was amazing. Really set the tone for the movie. The fact that it might not qualify for the Oscar is bunk. Truly bunk.

The Bose in ear head phones are awesome. They are good for the gym as you can run without them falling out and they are still small so they travel well.

I have several pairs of Sennheiser headphones and found them to be great. They make most type of headphones, but I only use the outer ear versions. One pair I have has cushioned noise canceling and they work well, my other pair is open ear (not ideal for the bus) set I use for video games. The open ear allows me to hear what is going on in the house, but have incredible sound. Better sound than my fairly high end home theater.

Like Kipper is King said, AKG's are great and make a good variety too. Just wanna chill at home and veg out under the headphones? They got some wicked ones that will do the trick for a price that won't make you crap yourself. I got these for home use, and definitely recommend them:
 AKG K271's for $223
If you're looking for something you can hook up to your ipod and travel with, without looking like a total goon wearing massive closed ear headphones, they gottem as well. I have these ones:
Don't remember how much they cost but it was a bargain considering how decent these sound. Think it was like $100 or so.
They also make in-ear buds, but I can't speak for how they preform. Don't like em.
Grado is also OUTSTANDING. But there is the $$$ issue. Seriously though for the price, AKG is very good.

also, my cousin has these bad boys...
got them for $200 I think he said. never heard them myself but he almost busted one talking about them after a good break-in period.
speaking of breaking headphones in, it is a fact after over 100 hours of use they will sound better than when you first bought them. lot's of people will hook them up to their amp and let them play for hours just to break them in so they really sound sweet. might not give a crap about crystal highs and all that good stuff, but its worth a mention.
