Thumbs up Get your eyes checked

This is NOT about NHL officials. It's more of a public-service plea.

I had an eye checkup yesterday and find out I have a hole in one retina. It's not serious yet. I will need surgery to correct the hole, otherwise it can turn into a retinal tear. My appointment with the ophthalmologist is next week. I hope this doesn't interfere with my plans to go to Mexico in January and do some scuba diving. I understand Hesla is the resident optometrist. I hope he doesn't mind but I'll be PMing him some questions.

My advice to everyone is to get regular eye exams. My eyes are nearly 20-20 but I went to get a prescription for some glasses for night driving. If I had not done that, who knows what the result would have been if this had not been detected. I don't live in Calgary otherwise would have seen Hesla Everyone should get their eyes checked regularly. They're pretty important. PM Hesla for an appointment.

We should do a groupon type deal with Hesla. If there are 10 of us, each eye exam is only $10 dollars! Save $90 or however much eye exams normally cost!

You were better off with a hole in your retina, now you're going to actually see the Oilers play....thats not good for anyone.

I'm sorry, I'm lost and don't understand what's going on. What do you want me to do? Where's the facebook campaign to change my display picture or put something cryptic in my status? If you don't do either of those things, I just can't comprehend what you're telling me.

If your eyes are almost 20-20, why do you need glasses for night driving? Clearly your eyes weren't that good to begin with.

It's entirely possible to have 20-20 vision but poor night vision. They aren't mutually inclusive.

Doesn't that seem like something the eye examiner wouldn't say unless they had a good reason too? If a health professional tells you to do something that they get no benefit from, why not go get it checked?

It's not like he recommended a bunch of supplements (conveniently available at the front counter!) or something where he's going to cash in.

I have to get my eyes checked every 6 months at the eye clinic in the Rockyview hospital. I have a non cancerous prolactin tumor in my head that can cause blindness if left unchecked.

There are a lot of ocular manifestations of disease and optometrists can save your life with their exam!

Your optometrist may be concerned that you have Grave's disease (which is caused by hyperthyroidism). Since this is an autoimmune reaction, your optometrist may have been concerned if you had dry eyes, swelling or pain.

I would get it checked. Quick blood test.

Thinking the Oilers rule sums up his eye sight perfectly, no?

Anywho, yeah, everyone should get everything checked on them every couple year or so. An ex-gf went to get her eyes checked prior to wanting Lasic surgery and they discovered she had a detached retina. Scary time.

Just found out last week that I have to have a corneal transplant. I've had a disease in my left eye called kerataconus, and basically it's progressed to the point that now I need to have this transplant. Not looking forward to having someone else's tissue in my eye. Not lookin forward to the doctors slicing open my eye. Not looking forward to this at all.

You may have misread me, I was just saying I was kind of surprised he could tell this from my eyes, not that I didn't believe him or anything.

You can tell a lot from looking at the eyes. Things like diabetes that cause the vessels in your eyeball to swell. I was thinking Grave's disease too when I heard about the recommendation to see an endocrinologist. Hope everything is okay
