The San Jose Sharks have finally moved Dany Heatley. He will be going north to the Anaheim Ducks along with Johnny Oduya, prospect Tim Erixon and a 2nd round pick this year. Coming back to the Sharks is Evgeni Malkin and a 3rd round pick.

This was an easy deal for the Sharks to make, especially with the way the Kings have been beefing up lately. The Sharks will likely make the playoffs, but realistically, the chances of winning the Cup this year are slim. We moved a guy who is a pending UFA and turning 30, a defenseman with a decent rating who has been underperforming (10 GP, 1 A +/- 0) and a prospect who is still a couple years out from joining the big club. (And he's a Flames prospect anyways... who wants those?)

This leaves us a little bit thin on defense, but Malkin will continue to be a very tradable asset for years to come.

We are thrilled to add Dany Heatley. This is a move made because it accomplishes a few things. Firstly it bolsters our chances to win this year. Heatley is 76OV, having another strong NHL season and is only 29. While Malkin is younger, he is 75OV so to be able to get extra assets for him while not downgrading was key. Oduya is a very serviceable D-man who is 66OV and on a decent contract through the end of next season. Lastly Erixon is a Flames prospect that hopefully will make the team next year.

Malkin is a great young player, but unfortunately he sucked in the sim for us. This move upgraded our team in the CPHL and also added a good young prospect and a 2nd rd pick.

Guys like Heatley are pretty easy to get in the league these days. Guys like Malkin are not. I like this for the Sharks as he gets the much more valuable asset.

I like this deal for Anaheim. Not only did he get an upgrade (rating wise) on Malkin he got a pretty solid D-man in Oduya and a 1st round prospect in Erixon. I am sure Oduya will be swapped so whatever Ravi can get for him will also factor into this deal.
