New rumors:
Leafs: Ilya Kovalchuk might be leaving town with several teams trying to obtain his services. The Wild, Kings, Devils, Predators and Habs are all in the running but the leafs GM will take his time and see what the best offer will be. There has also been interest in Clarke Macarthur from one GM but we are not sure how those talks are going.
Kings: While the kings GM might be having difficulty getting his hemorrhoids under control, he is also having difficulty making deals. He wants to upgrade but as of yet is unwilling to pay the price. We hear that the Kings and Wild have been discussing Luke Schenn but GM Grant is cheap as well. Two cheap GM’s usually do not equal a trade.
Preds: Wow. Out of nowhere the GM trades two scoring forwards. Is this a rebuild? I don’t think it is…yet. The GM will see if he can still manage to win while picking up younger assets. The chances of a cup in Nashville are very slim so it makes sense that he is picking up pieces for the future. Expect Fowler to be locked away in Nashville forever. With the flack he took over his last deal with the Jackets, he will be hoping that Fowler really makes an impact in the NHL this year.
Sharks: Brad Boyes is getting a lot of interest around the league and therizzle does have his eye on someone in a package for him. The Habs have been asking about Heatley but now that he has started to score in San Jose, therizzle is reluctant to move him.
Habs: The first trade the Habs GM ever made was apparently rejected by the league. Sources say that the Habs and Jackets made a trade for Gaborik. It was Gaborik and Salei for Byfuglien and Vlasic. The deal is apparently dead however as GM Penney is unwilling to add anything to the deal. Expect Gaborik to be traded, potentially to Toronto or San Jose.
Ducks: Malkin on the move? His name has been circulating around the CPHL. GM Ravi is undecided if he really wants to move him but he is looking at all his options. We know he was almost traded already but the deal was nixed by Ravi at the last minute.
Devils: Everyone wants Hall, Okposo, Niederreiter and Kulikov. But the devils GM doesn’t like what he is being offered for them. It will take good young players to get these types of players back. We expect some to move at some point but there is no rush here.
Jackets: Adding Alfie and Plekanec to the club is a big statement. Expect the Jackets to keep trading as the GM tries to get some consistency. This team looks like it should compete but will it? Jackets are talking to the Canucks about Krejci and to the Penguins about Ryan. Will we see a Ryan/Plekanec trade unfold between the two Newfie’s?
Penguins: GM Goffie made one deal already that sent Perry out of town. Expect more to come if he continues to struggle. We know he is shopping Ryan but he has a very high asking price. Goffie wants an offensive dman back in a trade. We expect Ryan to stay in Pittsburgh unless the GM lowers his asking price.
Hurricanes: Hurricanes scouts have been spotted in a Montreal airport buying a return ticket to Atlanta and it's believed that they are not scouting the Thrashers. Something is up and it has everything to do with the recent resignation of Habs GM Simmer.
