Signatures

So, this may be an old discussion topic, but what's the deal with signatures? As in, do people really like them so much to make it worth their annoyance? I thought signatures on bulletin boards died out in the early 2000s.

I'm finding that I browse cpuck more and more on a mobile, and the signatures really kill the speed. They are also quite repetitive when the same person is posting a lot in a thread. For the most part, they are just a place for people to make passive agressive jabs or have really terrible images.

I know a lot of boards have turned them off. Has there ever been consideration of following suit here?

I don't mind the sigs. They add a bit of creativity to the board and break up the blandness.

Also speaking of signatures, they could be a good way to promote your own business or blog if you were so inclined. I am not sure if this is allowed, however. Looking through the FAQ, I don't see anything written about it, but thought I'd ask.

I think a lot of people advertise their blogs, products or websites. I'm sure if it was clean and within the signature rules it would be allowed, but then again I'm not 100%.
