You can get cheap ass all inclusive trips to Mexico. Just checked and there are a few AIs that depart from Calgary in late June for 800 each taxes included. Probably get a better deal closer to the date as well.

$1000 total of each?

For each you can easily do an all inclusive or still have pretty good time in Vegas (although budgeted). $500 each, your best bet is Mexico, but it might not be the nicest place. For $500 each you are going to struggle to find a place even locally that you can afford to stay in a hotel in. A drive down to portland might be alright though. Even then travel expenses (gas and motels on the way) might do your budget in.

$1500 total (after all taxes/fees) for 2 people to go on an all inclusive vacation to Mexico is definitely in the realm of possibility. $1000 would really be pushing it (although it has happened on rare occasion).

For flights alone, there's not too many places left in the world you can fly to from Calgary for under $800 roundtrip after tax for 2 people. And that's for *just* the flights. Add a hotel room for over $28/night and you're over the $1000 budget.

Depends what you want to do. I did San Diego for cheap. Spent a ton of time at Mission beach. Had to get a midrange hotel in the hotel village (but it was a quick drive to the beach, plus the hotel had a palm-tree lined pool. They have the zoo there, the Padres and some great restaurants.

Go to Yellowknife. Seriously. The fishing is awesome, the scenery is quite nice, and the weather is good in the summer time.

Or you could drive to California. Hit the Redwood forest, and the beach for a couple of days. If you spend reasonably you could spend a week on the road for under $1000.

There's also always Kelowna.

Don't book through aircanadavacations.com 9/10 times the discount sites like Bookit.com flightcentre.com etc... will be much cheaper.

If you are going last minute, try redtag.com

Hmmm, I think I still have some edu-macating to do of the Canadian public. :0

Air Canada Vacations is a tour operator, which you can also lump in with other tour operators like Westjet Vacations, Sunwing, Nolitours, etc.

These tour operators offer their prices through 'Canadian based sites' like Flight Centre and RedTag (ITravel2000 fits in here as well). But in addition to offering their prices through these 'Canadian based' sites, they also have their own sites that you can book through (AirCanadaVacations.com, WestjetVacations.com, etc).

The prices on the tour operators own sites will be identical to the ones on the 'Canadian based sites' which are all identical to each other in price as well. So it wouldn't be quite accurate to state that booking through FlightCentre will be cheaper than booking through aircanadavacations own site.

Bookit.com is a different ballgame altogther, you can lump it in with the U.S. based sites like Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity. They're usually feeding from identical sources, but with occasional variations.

Just to note, it's redtag.ca - they don't own the .com - you'd think they would. I would imagine there are plenty of people that go to the wrong site.

If you live in Calgary, it's quite rare that a flight out of Great Falls or Kalispell will be worth the 5 hour drive. The price differential usually isn't all that great. One exception can be flights to Vegas through Allegiant Air (allegiantair.com)

There is the odd time where a flight out of Montana will drop extremely low (usually as the result of a major price drop from a bigger hub airport) and can make it worth the drive, but it's definitely not overly common.

For everything besides Allegiant Air, there's really nothing out of Montana that won't be covered completely by a search with Kayak which will search all the major airlines current prices.

ok, I am very much a traveling virgin. only been to vegas really. so what were some places you would HIGHLY recommend? I loved vegas, but this time looking for something with a beach and possibly some adventure... caves/suba diving/ etc. while keeping in that price range and the lower the better.

Vegas doesn't count.

Get a tent, and drive down the Pacific Coast to... San Francisco or something.

Cuba, mainly the Holguin Region. I stayed there in 2007 for 2 weeks at a resort called "Playa Pesquero". It was awesome, along with the typical beach stuff you can do, there is a river that you can take the kayaks from the resort up for a couple hours and you get some really cool pictures of the wilderness.

You can also borrow some of the resort bikes and bike down to Guardalavaca or some of the small towns in the area, people are VERY friendly, they will let you into their homes and let you look around (we ended up giving them some cash even though they refused to accept)

Lots of the excursions are pretty neat too, you can also head into the more mountainous regions.

If you are looking for adventure, your best bet is to backpack though, Cuba would be cool, you could go from Havana to the Vinales mountains and see the tobacco industry, its a very safe part of the world, plus the beaches are amazing.

I've been to Cali but never SD, but I got a buddy who went there about 4 years ago, and since then he tries to go at least once a year. Just loves that place. If it was humanly possible, I think he'd have sex with the city of San Diego. I'd definitely look into this if you're looking for a cheaper vacation.
