Big Shakeups in Colorado
Denver, CO - GM Swayze was working the phones today after he called out his team on TSN and had a closed door meeting with the team. "There is no excuse for us to be this bad, if I need to blow this team up again I will do that" he told TSN. "Our top players are not performing, its that simple" so GM Swayze made the moves to shake up the team. The first move breaks down like this:
To Colorado:
Martin Erat
2011 2nd (TB)
2012 4th (TOR)
To Tampa Bay:
Matt Gilroy
Rob Niedermayer
Angelo Esposito
Jonas Holos
Petter Granberg
"This move brings in a top 6 forward, we do sacrifice some of the future but we feel we have a good mix of youth already going forward. Any time you can bring in a top 6 forward without giving one up you do it."
The next deal was a high risk/high reward type of move.
To Colorado:
Pierre Marc Bouchard
Emerson Etem
Matt Mackenzie
To Calgary:
Milan Hejduk
Bryan Rust
"This move brings in another top 6 forward in Bouchard and a top prospect in Emerson Etem. We were really high on Etem going into the draft, he did slip a bit in the NHL draft but we feel the team that picked him is a good fit for him. Mackenzie is a guy we also targeted in the draft but were unable to select him". Some may question why you are bringing in Bouchard who had a nasty concussion last season but GM Swayze did his homework. "He is skating in full practice for the NHL Wild and taking on full contact. If he can return to his old form we feel this is a steal of a deal. He is skating on a line with Havlat so we feel like the points will eventually come when he gets his game legs under him".
Some rumor blogger are suggesting that this is just the beginning of the shake up. Some are suggesting that the Avalanche are shopping their newly acquired assets as well as some top prospects in Etem and Johansson.
