Calgary Police fatally shoot a person in SE

One person was shot and killed by Calgary police after an incident in the southeast Friday night.

Police say multiple shots were fired after officers were called to a residence in the 200 block of Erin Meadow Close at about 8 p.m.

Trickett said it was too early to release more details, but police were initially called for a check on welfare at the home.

He couldn’t say what prompted the officer to shoot.

“But something occurred at that residence that required one of our officers to use deadly force,” he said.

This happened at a house adjacent to my back lane (that's my hurtin' fence in the pic). Can't even park on my street because there's about 5 cop/asirt cars and the mobile command centre here still. Was out watching the game, but my mom was home.

Let's just say that this wasn't the first incident at that house over the last few years.

One pic has a cop with "Gang suppression" on the back of his shirt.

Kind of odd, no? Police are all police in that situation. Not sure why individual units need visual identification. It's not like they're competing teams.

At approximately 8 p.m., on Friday, June 10, 2011, police responded to a check on welfare call at an address in the 200 block of Erin Meadows Close S.E. Officers were sent to the scene after a woman in the home placed a call to 911 indicating she was in distress.

The call-taker was unable to establish an open conversation with the woman.

When officers approached the door of the home, they were confronted by a man armed with a knife. Subsequently, a CPS weapon was discharged and the man was shot several times. He died at the scene.

A second person in the home suffered injuries from a fall while leaving the residence following the incident.

No police officers were injured.

at 430am 3 men tried breaking in (picking the deadbolt) at my place. my alarm scared em off.

and then at noon

my friend was locked out so he had to come in the window... someone called the cops..swatt team and cops came with guns drawn...k9 unit, hawcs... and global tv and 660 news.... my friend was cuffed at gunpoint. crazy

Knife to a gunfight. I suppose this is where all the cop haters will say they didn't need to kill him and start asking why they didn't shoot him in the arm or leg or even shoot the knife of his hand. Maybe they could have tasered him but it probably happened so fast. besides, in the off chance he dies from that there'd be even more of a storm from the public.

Police aren't trained to aim for arms and legs, too much chance you'll miss/not stop them.....Keep that in mind when you try to come at them....

Forget shooting them in the arm or leg, what they should have done is called in some martial artist to chop the knife out. It's easy to do. Another unnecessary death.

I think competition between teams, departments, and bureaus is inevitable with human nature. But it surely isn't like it is in the movies with sergeants and FBI agents and SWAT teams all arguing about jurisdiction.

Dude, you seriously need to move into another neighborhood. You've been hit or have had attempted hits like what? 10 times in the past 3 years?

They have visual identification because of their roll within the CPS.

Most likely they were there to assist in the incident as the manpower draw when a major event occurs is great.

When I skimmed over the title of the thread for the first time, I read it as "Calgary Police finally shoot a person in SE." I was even more shocked until I carefully read it.
