Interesting stuff re. The possibilities of big changes in Raptors-land. Not sure how I feel about this as I think that arguments could be made either way as to whether Babcock should go.

http://www.tsn.ca/nba/news_story.asp?id=120817

Why he should stay – this organization needs some stability. Did anyone really expect the Raps to compete this year even in the weak East? Not me. One could argue that one year is not nearly enough time to give a GM to implement a plan.

Why he should go – Two primary reasons:
1.Drafting Arujo. There were better players at that spot than this big lug. Dude has size but zero athleticism and seems to have brain cramps. This guy was the waste of a pick and for the Raps that’s just not acceptable. They have to draft well.
2.The Carter trade – Vincanity needed to go no question but there had to be better deals out there then this one.

So tough call whether he should be given the boot.

But…I wouldn’t fire Sam Mitchell. You gave this guy a crap team to coach and he’s done a good job – its not his fault the team isn’t good. I do think he made some errors earlier in the season but that’s natural for a rookie head coach. He’s already rounding into a good coach in my view.

I don't really know enough to comment on the president position.

Thoughts?

Not like it helps when fans are screaming "we should have drafted Igudala on draft day", the overwhelming majority of experts thought Igudala was the Best player Available, of course Babcock disagreed. He gets drafted right after Hoppa.

And of course Igudala is head and shoulders above "Hoppa" in terms of play this season.

VC trade, utter disaster... how about trying to get a good young Center?? Maglore anyone? Heck the rumors with Portland were absolutely through the roof and I don't think they would have blinked if they had to throw their backup Center Przybilla in, who has really had some amazing games down the stretch, and would be a great option at C next year. Looks like he might be a real deal down the line. Of Course, his stock has risen significantly since the trade.

I should give my opinion:

FIRE HIM. Sorry we can do a lot better than this.

Fire him...keep the Raps in mediocrity forever! Toronto fans deserve it!

Agree, Mitchell is a good coach, he just needs players who aren't cancers (alston). And at least some decent talent who shares the same intensity/work ethic he does.

I didn't think much of the Carter trade, but it's hard to determine how the trade plays out exactly until we see what happens with the draft picks. On the other hand, Toronto can't afford to screw up this draft, and I don't trust Babcock to make that decision on his own. Was Bonner a player that Babcock brought in? I thought he was, and he's definitely been one of the bright spots for this team--but a role-player on a team already chock-full of role-players.

Bonner was a previous pick of the last GM.

Although Babcock brought him over after his season in europe.

The only mistake in my mind Babcock has made was the hoffa pick but we needed a big guy, I don't think Woods is any better. Although I do wish we had gotten Igoudala.

The Vince trade I'm okay with. There was so many distractions going on with him on the team, I'm glad he left. I would've been happy with just the draft picks coming our way.

Vince was averaging a career low in points, his play was blamed on his injury-proned body, many questioned his character, and there were rumors he wasn't getting along at all with Mitchell. I don't think his trade value was to high to begin with.

Babcock got the Raps some salary cap room for next year and a couple of draft picks. Now all he needs to do is get rid of Jalen's contract and I'll be happy.
