Default Selling a Time Share, help and advice

I have a family member that doesn't use their timeshare condo (at a Golf, Ski area in the States) anymore. They have asked for advice about selling it...and since I don't know I figured I'd do some research. So, I want to tap into the collective brain here and see what you all know about it.

Thanks in advance

First, where is it? Second, do they have something like RCI points or weeks to kick in? Third, do they know they're going to take a beating?

Best place to ask for timeshare advice is:

www.tugbbs.com

(Not associated with the site, its like the calgary puck for timeshares)

Great advice all around. They have a sticky thread on how to sell your timeshare, great advice to avoid getting ripped off, as there are a lot of scams in timeshare resale.

Yeah, even I knew they were going to take a beating on the price they paid (they bought it 15 years ago)
Its in Montana at a golf course near Kalispell, can use it all year round.
They have 5 weeks and RCI points too

They actually got a call from some clown in Florida that said he had a buyer for their place...turns out he just wanted them to pay him money to do...nothing! Scammer!

That in the industry is what is called a buy and sell.
I bet he would say he has a buyer and also say he has a better time share to sell them for less than half of the what he will sell theirs for.
Then they sign the paperwork for the purchase of the unit and they never actually get the cash for the timeshare they sold. The guy goes missing after he collects his commission and your folks are stuck with another place or a bad credit rating.
