Ok, what's the price of gas in this city today? I noticed it's changed from 85.9 it was at yesterday. But, some places I drove by today had it at 89.9, then I saw it at 84.2 (which I chalked up to them replacing the sign), but then I go to the petro-can by my place, since increases lag by a day usually, and both it and the esso across the street are at 84.2. Is there a mini gas war happening there?
(location of 84.2 gas is the Dalhousie Canadian Tire...but not the Petro-Can or Co-Op in that area, and at the Edgemont Petro-Can and Esso)

Yeah, that's where I live too, maybe a mini-gas war? That'd be cool. That Esso was pretty much freeloading for months while the Petro-Can was closed for renovations.
But damn, that new gas bar/convenience store/post office is amazing. The east-indian dude that works at the post office is, I kid you know, the NICEST MAN IN THE WORLD. He tried everything to save me money on postage. I didn't know postal employees could be so great.

Once it hit into the 80s a few weeks ago. It was only a matter of time before it started going up... I wouldn't expect it to go over 90 for a little while, they are pretty careful about staying within the 10s.

This is frustrating, I use to be able to fill my car up for $35, last time I filled it up it was $45. Only saving grace is that I am on the train to and from work 5 days a week, so my tank lasts me twice as long time wise.

You guys are getting ripped off. We're paying 85.4 in Winnipeg (pump price) even though Manitoba fuel taxes are 10-15 cents more per litre than Alberta.

when its 90 cents/L in Calgary, it tells you its time for the Middle East to increase production... supposedly they were going to, but clearly that hasn't happened.

I'd rather it make people take fuel economy a little more serious. Driving a Chevy Avalanche for a grocery getter just doesn't make sense.

Everywhere I drove today, the price was 89.9. Many analysts say we are going to be paying over a doller per litre come the summer time. This could only be the tip of the iceberg.

Honestly you are sick and tired of gas prices find other methods of transportation.... it is cheaper and better for the enviroment. And while I realize that not everyone likes transit, or hell can stand transit, but not enough people even do something as simple as carpool into work. My main suggestion is to ride a bike into work. Calgary has some very nice bike paths and well it is a great way to wake up in the morning... fresh air, good exercise, and in some cases depending on the level of traffic it is faster than driving as one is able to take the backroads and avoid all the traffic.....

I agree its a deserving wake up call to people driving huge vehicles without any reason to, but when it costs $40 to fill up an efficient car like a Sunfire which gets over 500kms a tank, there's a bit of a problem.
As for transit and bikes, sure, if you have the time, or if you are heading downtown, but some people don't have hours a day to spare commuting. Many people need their vehicles, and it is getting to a point where government and industry have to sit back and really examine the situation.

I live up by Crowfoot and to get downtown the most that it takes is around 35-40 minutes in the morning. If I drive it will take around 25-35 minutes in rush hour, and around 10-20 minutes during light/normal traffic....
some people need their cars yes I agree, but at the same time using time as an excuse for a large part is a weak excuse, as it is what 20-30 minutes a day.

To calf's original post....I think the Esso usually waits for the Petro to put the price down, but the Petro usually doesn't do it until the next morning. I love the new gas station/macs/postal office, it's huge!! I heard once that both prices were the same, when my dad came home petro was more expensive then esso then when my mom came home it was the other way around. Some odd competition going on between those 2 stations.

Yeah that's the messed up thing. Toronto gas prices are the same as us. And they have PST included in their prices. What gives?
The bright side to all this, is that gas still costs less than water per litre. B-)

Wow, times like these I wish that I was back in Alberta!
Gas out here on the West Coast is advertised anywhere from 94 cents to 98.2 cents. Ouch! Add in the 3.5 cent discount, and you're looking at 91/92 to around 95 cents/litre to fill up....
