Default Drunk plows into crowd of people outside bar

http://www.calgarysun.com/news/alber.../15880401.html

One of those cases where I wish I was there to wallop the guy over the head with a bat....

You hear tragic stories all of the time but ones like these enrage me.

I read this in the Herald. Weird because they said it looked like the guy aimed for the people.

Sadly even if it was intentional they'd only ever find him guilty of manslaughter, it should be murder 2, but thats Canada.

From what I understand he intentionally ran them over. Sure hope they throw the heaviest book they can find at him.

Ever since I was a teenager going to watch a friend of mine play for the Griz I never felt safe/clean in Olds. I know a few really quality people from that town, but generally there was always a group of drunken nincompoops around every corner.

I've been to that bar, and it is quite the dive.

Hope the other kid comes out OK.

The guy that ran them over was a 24 year old Calgarian who took his shirt off and tried to beat up a parapelegic (does Flames Gimp like to pick up ladies in Olds?...) and then punched a waitress.

Good thing the bar kicked him out instead of calling the cops.

I don't think the RCMP would want to be called everytime someone started a fight or was kicked out of a bar in Olds. They'd probably end up needing a full time bar cop.

I never said they were all from Olds.

Just a general comment based on personal experience.

For sure. I'm not a big fan of Olds. Just wanted to clarify he was a Calgarian.

I have no issue with Olds.

I do however have an issue with idiots who intentionally drive their vehicle into a crowd of innocent people.

Wow obviously the guy is more than a little messed up inside of the head.
I doubt he remembers a thing prior to being arrested.

Really sounds like something out of a movie. Bizarre.

this is Canada, heaviest thing they'll throw at him is a leaflet. he'll probably get 6 years or less on a manslaughter charge, out on probation in 2

If that happens hopefully the first street he crosses he gets hit by bus...repeatedly.

What a tragedy. Death penalty would be way to good for this guy.

Guy was charged with first degree murder. Now lets see if those charges stick.

FWIW, here's the version I got from a friend of a friend who was there.

The accused and a co-worker/friend or two were in there having drinks. Apparently a wallet was found on the floor by the accused. He then began using the money/credit cards found inside to buy drinks for the house. Supposedly the wallet belonged to someone still in the bar. When it was found out how he was buying drinks, all hell let loose.

Take it with a grain of salt obviously, but I do know that the friend of a friend was actually there, as I was told about it Friday morning before it hit the news.

Why do we have to always imply that the accused is sick in the head, or doesn't remember what happened prior to being arrested.

Personally I don't care, if he was drunk it was his fault, he's the one that decided to become an over aggressive piss tank.

And anger control issues are no excuse for plowing a truck into people.

It sounds like the guy was a bully who was there to pick fights, hopefully we get a judge that recognizes this guy for what he is, a loser, who's a danger to society, and no statement of remorse is going to bring back the kid that he killed.

I hope he gets a good long time to reflect and think about what he's done.

It seems like a case where murder-2 is more appropriate - though I would guess that there are aggravating circumstances to bring it up to murder-1. Agreed. Hopefully this sticks.

even though I'm a conservative and uber anti government control in every aspect in our lives, I think they need to start putting Breath machines in every car. I lost my father to a drunk driver and I find it just absolutely disgusting. I hope this ass rots in hell for such an irresponsible idea. Call someone, if anyone is a true friend they will come and pick you up. Call your parents, call a church, hell call the police and see if they know any ways of you getting home safe. It's not the fact that you can harm someone innocent but the fact that you can harm yourself too.

Think before you drink, you only get one life.

you can punish the majority for the actions of a small minority. do you honestly think that non-drinkers should be forced to blow into a breathalyzer before being able to start their car? i wouldn't be obverse to making them a requirement for anyone previously convicted of a DUI, but not for everyone
