Default Goalie Thread

I know there are a bunch of goalies on CP, so I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread on here. Show off your gear (most of us are gear junkies right?), ask questions etc.

I'll start...

I am strongly considering the purchase of custom gear for the first time. I currently play in reebok 7k's but am looking to move to the revokes.

I am 5'8 and want to move from a 32+1 to a 31+1 so I can move into Intermediate gear and save over $800. Does anyone see a major issue with that?

I'd say Measure your ATK to make sure a 31" will work for you.......if your looking for custom gear I'd say check out this guy www.battram.com I got my gloves from him and they are the best I've ever used and custom made in less than 3 weeks

my only thought with an adult in intermediate gear would be that perhaps the gear is not really made for an adult - perhpas in the long term it would be better to go with senior stuff.

I played goal my whole life but gave up hockey for other interests. 15 years later and I'm getting the itch to get back into it. I've started doing some research and I can't believe how amazing the gear is now - the pads are so light you can barely tell you're holding them.

The hardest part about getting back into it though is convincing my wife that buying new gear is a good idea. haha - I could be looking at close to $3000 all said and done.

Check out McKenney gear. Tuxedo and Goalie Shop sell them for sure. They are making an awesome Canadian made product for far less than the other manufacturers.

And remember, if you're going to cheap out on any piece of gear, don't make it your mask...

I'm 5'8 and wear a 35+1 pad. I can move the knee lock and it's more of a 34+2 now. I couldn't imagine wearing a 32 nevermind a 31... and I thought senior pads start at 33's? I know a couple goalies who are 5'6-ish and they wear 33's.

I suppose it depends on your play and your ATK, but in general terms I see a major problem with that. If cost is a concern, there's plenty of amazing deals online - new or used. I haven't bought goalie equipment in Calgary in years.

There's some old discussion of a similar topic here.

So my original question was posed in May before I ordered my new gar.

I ended up ordering a 31+2 and it's perfect for me. I have no issues with not landing on the knee block properly, or anything at all. I am very glad I chose to go with the height that I did. I can comfortably fit anywhere between a 30 and 32.
