Basically, India, Thailand, Brazil, and China are some of the world's leading producers of generic (copied) drugs, especially expensive and needed AIDS medication. India, one of the largest producers, has just toughened their laws mandating that licensing fees must be paid to the Western corporate patent-holders, and new restrictions have been placed on future 'copying' of patented drugs.
Should AIDS drugs be widely (cheaply) available to anyone that needs them? Do Pharmaceutical companies _need_ massive profits to finance better, future drugs? Is violating patents on drugs like downloading music? Will 'stealing' these formulas result in less incentives to make new, better drugs (or heaven forbid, cures)?
Or do Pharmaceutical companies have the best point in this issue, in the form of the Law, which protects their patent-rights?
Fire away.
