Default Offroading pics.... McLean Creek

Thought I would post up some pics of Sunday's fun.... for those who are interested in this sort of thing.

On the trail...

The first big puddle...

Emptying out the water....

Trying to climb out...

Stuck and waiting for a tow....

Climbing out of the same hole....

I dont want to sound like a jerk or anything, but I am against destroying our beautiful backcountry with ATV's and Vehicles.
This type of recreational activity should be outlawed.

But it isnt.

I'm not big on it either, but some people love it. Have at it then.

I find it very hard to see the appeal in driving around in the mud and getting stuck, but hey that's just me.

I consider myself to be a little bit of a treehugger, but I feel that having designated areas for this type of activity is actually better for the wilderness. Without a designated area, this kind of thing would happen illegally in other locations and would probably cause more widespread damage.

I agree, if you limit the activity to a defined area the overall impact to the environment is reasonable...

Ban it and the activity/carnage gets spread all over....

On another note, I've thought about picking up a dirt bike and riding through that area...but I am pretty new to off road motorcycles...good idea? Or am I applying for a Darwin award?

Riding out at Mclean is definitely more challenging than most novice riders care for. I'd get a bike and find something a little easier at first.

If you mash up your squash and mix it with brown sugar and butter, it's actually really freakin' delicious.

Meh, it's a non-issue. We have so much back country and off-roading barely scratches the surface of the land anyway.

Concerning roads in general: 90% of all roads in the US are paved, only 10% of all roads in Canada are paved.

that first picture is a pretty cool.

the only off-road folks that annoy me are the one who head into the back country with an old couch and then try to start up random bonfires and carve new trails. i'd like to think there is enough back country to be shared by mtn bikers, folks on horses and 4x4 enthusiasts.....

Its ridiculous how Alberta tries to contain this unlike other provinces given that;

If every single person was off-road every weekend there would still not be as much damage as the Oil and Gas Industry has done.

then again read the Alberta Venture companies by industry if you don't know what keeps the province afloat.

Have you driven the Forestry Trunk Road? Off-Roaders are everywhere.

Well, being someone who spends a significant amount of time out in the brambles, I have to say I don't think this causes much/any damage of any significance. Most of the time they are just using cutlines, pipelines (trees are cut down along the route of pipelines for access purposes) and roads made for logging and oil & gas exploration.

These guys don't really make new roads, just re-use roads made by industry.
