Syncing iPhone

I sync my iPhone with my laptop to transfer Outlook appointments. Usually I just plug the iPhone into my USB jack and it syncs automatically. It's not doing it now. I get an error message that says: the iPhone cannot be used because the Apple mobile device is not started. Why is it not syncing for me now and how can I do a manual sync?

in the start menu run box type services.msc, find the apple mobile device service and make sure it is in auto. also, start it, and retry

Start menu where? In iTunes or the computer's start?

Okay I've done that an now it's syncing. Mmany thanks, Rico. Tell me this: I didn't change anything in my settings so how come it syncs one day and then won't do it a couple of days later?

Was the startup type already set to Automatic when you went into the Service menu? If so then, something shut the service down or prevented it from starting up in the first place. Maybe it is a program you installed or updated. If it was set to Manual, Disabled or Automatic (Delayed Start) for some reason, then maybe it won't happen again.

If it does stop working again, then go back to Services, and check to see if that type has somehow changed again and then it might give us more informaton about how to fix it more permanently.
