Default Malta anyone?

CP is always good for travel advice. Anyone been to Malta and have recommendations? We're heading to Paris the end of Oct and are planning a side trip.

Malta is ok but it is really cramped there. The mixed heritage makes for some really hot women.

I would do a side trip to Dubrovnik or if you are younger perhaps Ibiza

Very beautiful, but it can get extremely hot during the summer. LOTS of good looking women too.

Malta is amazing- hot, very safe, amazing scenery, and not too crowded.

Depending on what you are into, I would recommend one thing if possible- rent a car!! If you cant rent a car though, staying in the Valletta area is probably a good idea, as it gives you good access to the entire island. When I was there, I was originally staying in Marskalla (sp?) in the SE, which was amazing, but took forever to get around via public transportation. I quickly switched to a hotel in Sliema, which was better.

A couple recommendations:

- do a day trip to Gozo. Easy enough to catch a ferry on the north side of the island. If you don't have a rental car, be careful what time you come back to the main island as the busses shut down early on weekdays. I had to catch a cab back to Valletta, which was around $60.
- the walk from Valletta to St Julians bay along the seawall is amazing.
- the best beach is golden bay I think. Not nearly as busy as some of the other higher rated beaches if I recall correctly.
- if you want luxury, the top end hotels in St. Julians bay are unreal. I dint stay there, but wish I had. If you want more of a local feel, there are plenty of options (and cheaper).
