US Airways flight crashes into the Hudson River [Old Bumped Thread]
www.cnn.com for live coverage.
I don't think anyone died in this crash and it sounds like the pilot's skills "landing" on the water saved hundreds of lives.

The doors are still closed and they are trying to figure how to get people out.

From early report, it was a flock of seagulls (haha, i know but...) that got into both engines. An engine can handle a bird or two....a whole flock, not so much.

From the CNN reports he had pretty much slowed down before hitting the water, and that this was an aborted take-off.
So he didn't land on water, he rolled off the runway, across the field, and if he had a few hundred more feet it wouldn't have hit the water at all.
Very different from trying to land a jet on water from full flight.

No this is not a aborted takeoff.
It achieved t/o but it suffered multiple bird strikes damaging both engines.

Where they landed is fairly far from the airport, so i severly doubt this. LGA is in queens, where they landed is on the OTHER side of Manhattan. The Hudson is nowhere near the airport....it would've had to been like a 2 mile skid!

I'm sure Manhattanites did not enjoy seeing a plane flying low and heading for a crash landing. Probably scared a few of them.

They talked to a guy and thought it at first. He said pilot did a great job which is a understatement.

Looks like the report I was reading is no longer on CNN's site. Obviously somebody else with better NY geography cleared that up for them.

It takes incredible skill to crash land any plane in water, for him to grease an ailing 320 into water without it coming apart is amazing.

I always smirked when I heard "In the event of a water landing..." during the flight attendants' spiel, thinking there was no such thing. Who knew planes float?
