Default Elizabeth May is Canada's Parliamentarian of the Year

As voted on by fellow MPs:

Parliamentarian of the Year: Elizabeth May
Hardest working: Kirsty Duncan
Best Orator: Bob Rae
Most Collegial: Peter Stoffer
Most Knowledgeable: Stephen Harper
Rising Star: Michelle Rempel
Best Represents Constituents: Niki Ashton
Lifetime Achievement Award: Preston Manning

Regardless of what you think of her opinions, May is probably one of the most passionate and hard working of the MPs so good for her. I found it kind of amusing that no one from either the party in power or the official opposition were nominated for parliamentarian of the year.

How did voting work? Ipsos Reid asked all members of Parliament to nominate the best MPs in each of seven categories. MPs cast votes for members both in and outside their parties. The votes were converted to a point system to ensure that larger parties did not have an advantage. The MP who received the most points in each category won. The MP who earned the highest number of total points was named Parliamentarian of the Year.
If I'm reading that correctly, then votes for a parliamentarian from a party with fewer elected MPs count for proportionally more than votes for an MP from a larger party. Since there is only one Green Party MP, she probably received a huge handicap bonus. I'd like to see the exact formula they used to convert votes to points to see just how much of an advantage she had.

Silver is passionate about his hatred of dogs and Option83(?) was passionate about his hatred of overprices liquor store pop, it doesn't mean that is means a damn thing.

She can be as "passionate" as she wants but as long as she is still the same kook and carpetbagging drop in candidate as she is then she will never have my resect and certainly does not deserve this "award" at all.

Macleans does this very year? I didn't know about this; this is kinda disappointing
I thought these "best this" and "best that" opinions were reserved for movies and video games; they're now giving awards to parliamentarians?? What a joke.

It was a pretty big accomplishment to become MP. A lot of people never thought they'd see it happen.
