At least Canadians aren't going to be too effected by the rate hike. Everything but one month subscriptions are staying the same.

"Starting November 1st, Microsoft is increasing one or more of the prices for a Gold Xbox Live subscription in the USA, UK, Canada and Mexico. In the US, the costs of one month, three month and twelve month subscriptions are all increasing. In the UK and Canada, only the cost of a one month subscription will increase, and in Mexico only the twelve month subscription is going up. "

Which is good, because the only "added value" that's happening to XBL in the near future is Hulu and ESPN - neither of which will be available in Canada.

I'd be fine with a 10 dollar hike, if they then added a "playstation plus" type deal, where we got an arcade game for free every month etc. etc.

So all they did was make Canada and US 1 year subscriptions at par, but instead of lowering the Canadian cost they just increased the US cost to match

Not quite. The US gets new features for that $10. We get the same price because nothing changed. It has nothing to do with setting currency at par. I doubt we'll ever see games the same price or cheaper than the US here.

Why does Microsoft get away with charging a fee when PC and PS3 users don't have one?
