Default Canucks fans infiltrate Calgary, shine laser pointers at police helicopters

http://www.calgaryherald.com/enterta...375/story.html

Quote:
Someone on the ground aimed a bright green laser beam into the chopper's cockpit, forcing the pilot to take evasive action.

"It's incredibly distracting," said Partridge, who said the light typically fills the entire cockpit.

"We really wish these people would just stay in Vancouver and blind their own police helicopter pilots."
Pretty classless IMO. Just proves that Canucks fans are the worst fans on the planet.

I don't know much about how distracting it actually is but I really think that this is a case where the pilot had a really bad day, this happened and he wanted to take all his anger out on this guy.

Don't bother reading the OP's article, it would be too quick of an answer to your question

Its just not a distraction, it can permanently blind you and thus the reason the pilot and officer are currently off on medical leave. Its a pretty serious stunt to be pulling.

You also have to consider that this happened at 1045 pm at night, presumably when its dark out. When you're flying a helicopter at night, you don't deal with a lot of direct light, and to have something even temporarily blind you of your natural night vision, its a pretty dangerous thing.

Police said the helicopter was hit with the laser at least two more times during a 30-minute search for the source.

McConnell said he commonly uses laser pointers in trade show displays and described Monday's incident as an accident.

The guy hits the cockpit 3 times in 30 minutes and not only claims it was an accident but claims that it randomly happened bouncing off a mirror in his house?

There was an earlier article that indicated that he had been charged with using the laser against Cops in the past.

If thats true then give him 6 months in prison and fine him $50,000.00

That way he won't be able to get a job and thus won't be able to buy lasers.

Plus I don't buy his story.

Reminds me of when I was 16ish.

My friend had a super strong, car plugin spotlight to light people up at night and well at them like they were gettin arrested.

One night hawks helicopter lights up his car while he's driving, so he decides it would be smart to pull over, and light them up with his own light. Well **** hit the fan obviously and he was rushed by a buncha cruisers shortly and they busted his lamp on the ground

Wow. Quite possibly the most dim 34 year old I've ever heard of, and not so much for the laser pointer incident, which was off the scale stupid. But relating this "excuse" to the press? How breathtakingly moronic.
