Devils-Thrashers make a deal

To New Jersey:

D - Cody Franson (60 ov)
D - Steve Montador (61 ov)
Prospect Sebastian Wannstrom (2nd round pick by NHL Blues)

To Atlanta:

F - Dan Cleary (65 ov)
D - Randy Jones (61 ov)
1.75 M Cash

Franson is a solid young player that will help New Jersey. We needed a top 6 forward and got it in Cleary.

Montador and Jones were added simply to save me 1 M in salary and get the deal done as they are both 61 ov but Jones is 1 M cheaper. NJ also gets Wannstrom as well while we get the cap space.

Think it is a fair deal and thanks to NJ for the talks.

Well, I'm comfortable with the deal as it is here. With Cleary being a UFA after this season, I really didn't see significantly better return coming my way though I could be out to lunch on this one right now. I think it was pretty clear that the Devils were not going to be competing for the Cup this year, so this deal doesn't hurt so bad.
