Default North Korea hates losing

National soccer team punished and the coach sentenced to hard labour after a early world cup exit.

Somebody call Hans Blix, he will be very very upset.

Yeah, how dare you lose to Brazil by a huge 2-1 margin, embarrassing the country! Nevermind the world ranking difference of 100 places.

You think Kim Jong-Il is bad, wait until his son takes power. Apparently he is just as ruthless and is only in his 20s.

Quote:
In his memoir recounting the days he spent as Kim Jong Il's personal chef in Pyongyang, Kenji Fujimoto calls Kim Jong Un, the third son of the North Korea dictator, the "Prince." "When Jong Un shook hands with me," Fujimoto writes, "he stared at me with a vicious look. I cannot forget the look in the Prince's eyes: it's as if he was thinking, 'This guy is a despicable Japanese.'" Jong Un, Fujimoto also writes, is "a chip off the old block, a spitting image of his father in terms of face, body shape and personality."

It's going to be interesting to see the effects of the transfer of power in the DPRK once Kim Jong-Il dies...

Its interesting that the rumors are that the sinking of the South Korean Corvette, the refusal for North Korea to engage in meaningfull negotiated discussions around their nuclear weapons and other actions by Kim Jong, have been about him internally getting the army to support his son.

In order for Junior to effectively maintain power once he gets it is to make sure that the army and North Korea's vast internal intelligent organization continue to get the perks that they require.

I remember casually joking during World Cup that anything short of failure for DPNK would mean harsh punishment for the entire team.

Truly, I expected the state media to actually write that DPNK had won the World Cup while censoring any outside nerws sources claiming otherwise.

This is one time that when I laugh about being right, I summarily feel guilty about laughing moments later.

According to Wikipedia, there is only one verified photograph of this person, and it was taken when he was 11. Bizarre.

No doubt they would have, if they hadn't allowed the game to be broadcast live. Kind of hard to deny that you lost after you let your entire country see it happen.

The North Koreans believe what they are told. My co-worker's family hosted some North Koreans athletes during the winter olympics. They truly believe that they are well off and that westerners are the issue. I was surprised that they were allowed to stay with "host families" to start with...

Torture eh? Did they make them watch soccer?

Seriously though, I was wondering if this would happen, and not only with North Korea but maybe a couple other nations as well. Sucks.

What were we supposed to do. The North Korean's have what is equivalent to a gun at the worlds head. they have 12000 artillary and rocket pieces within range of Seoul, within minutes of any hostilities that city is wiped off of the map.

An airstrike would be prudent to remove that artillery, however the most advanced anti-aircraft defense web is in that region.

You can't just give Kim Jung Il what he wants. You send mass food aid in and it goes to the army, you send construction materials in and they'll build more fortifications.

The North Korean government doesn't give a crap about their people starving or dying.

Admittedly ignorant here, but doesn't China kind of reluctatantly have Kim's back too?
