Adrian Aucoin available
With the acquisition of Harding, I don't have the cap available to keep him and all the forwards. With my D being deepest part of my team potential wise, it makes sense to trade the highest paid one.
What I'm looking for is to clear some salary, while getting something back that's decent. Some people need a good D-man and AA's the best one that's available at the moment.
I can take on a bad contract if necessary but only if it's less than 3.25 million, and expires at the end of this season. Or I can send up to 2.3 million without a contract coming back.
I'm looking for either picks or prospects, or both.

He's off to the Kings along with Veilleux and a bit of cap for Holloway, O'Dell, Katic and a swap of picks in 2012.
This helps get me under the cap, and allows me some flexibility going forward to add a contract or two.

Pending approval from the league, the deal is as follows:
Aucoin, Veilleux, 2.3M, and a 2012 2nd round pick for O'dell, Katic, Holloway, and 2012 4th and 5th round picks.
Thanks to Caged for the talks, very smooth deal.

Great deal for LA. If this is the going price for defensemen then I guess I need to re-evaluate the direction of my team for next season.

Yeah, really like the deal for LA... nice work
I would really like an explanation on Florida's part. 2 NHL players AND a 2nd for prospects who are super far away and low picks

I'm guessing that because he was really tight to the cap and still needed to fill some spots, he absolutely needed to move Aucoin for some cap relief. He also posted yesterday that Aucoin was available, I'm assuming he didn't get any better offers. Also, there aren't a lot of teams out there that can add cap after the UFAs have now been signed.
This is just my take on it however.

The thing is - he didnt need to move anyone to get under the cap. At this point in the off-season a lot of teams are selling cap at anywhere from 33-50% markup on next year. For example he would need to send 2 mill for 1.5 this year, sure he might have not wanted to do that but I think its a lot better then giving up 2 CPHL rated players for a bunch of players that wont get a rating for the next 2 years AT LEAST.

If you look at his roster and what he did prior to and at the draft, it's obvious he isn't worried about having CPHL rated players for 2 years. He is definitely building for the future and hopefully in 2 years he has an extremely strong team.

Deal doesn't make any sense to me either. FLA wasn't really over the cap. Send a couple of the prospects down to the minors where they belong, perceived cap problem solved.

Aucoin was signed to a grid deal, it's the common sign and pass the buck to someone else type deal.... trade an asset to get an Ufa and then flip him
some teams use it, some don't but both ways are equally effective

Yup. Doug, was it yourself who signed a bunch of UFA back-ups one year? I know you did it for cheap and then teams were in need of a back-up and you were able to swing some deals in your favor. During the UFA signing period, everyone was confused as to what you were doing but there were methods to your madness.
