Buying a wetsuit...

Question Series #3... I've done my due diligence of sizing and thickness for a wet suite, but I'm not too sure what to really look for in terms of comfort. Anyone own wetsuites or know what to look for in them in terms of comfort? I'll be getting a 4/3mm thickness one. Activities for it include surfing, rafting and canyoneering.

In my experience, they aren't very comfortable :P Kind of clingy.

They're not bad once they're in the water. It's when they're dry it's annoying.

Try some on, get whatever fits you. It shouldn't be baggy anywhere, but you shouldn't be singing like a castrado either.

I'm hoping to buy online to save me 50%.. I'm told chest is the most important to measure. Any other suggestions for an online buyer?

Find somewhere to try it on before you buy.
2 things I wouldn't buy before trying on: footwear and wetsuits.

Saving 50% is pointless if you have to buy 3 before you get one that fits properly.

I would look into Excel - I have had 3 or 4 of their suits and they are by far the most comfortable to me. The front zipper model is fantastic but a little hard to find. Definitely measure the chest, you don't want tightness across the chest or shoulders

You don't need a wetsuit to climb a mountain. I think you're making a mistake.

are you going surfing on the coast?
i have a 5/6 i use surfing tofino, i also have a 4/3 i use for warmer water.
the 4/3 i would never use on the coast, unless it was summer time. or didn't expect to spend much time in the water.
i went rafting with friends in K-country once and elected to float while they rafted. i wore my 6/5 and it was cold, colder than Tofino in winter time.
i also wear 7mm booties and have 3mm gloves.

i would consider a hood
welded seams
a snug ass fit
and maybe a 6/5. better to be warm than cold. if it gets to hot you can always do a flush. (let water in)

Yeah, but think more south - like San Francisco, Half Moon Bay. I'd like to use it for a few things too like Canyoneering (Utah, around LA) or rafting in Sacramento, so I might want a little thinner.

Make sure its not too big around the thighs. If they offer you a ladies size...demand a small mens wetsuit.

I've seen wetsuits at Costco for cheap in years past. The selection is hit and miss but I got my shortie there and it's great for the price.
