Default Baby thought to be dead cries at funeral home, later dies on way to hospital

Crazy story.

"SAO PAULO -- A newborn girl was saved from being buried alive when she started crying at a funeral home, but she died Wednesday after being rushed back to a hospital, medical officials said.

A 14-year-old mother who was seven months pregnant gave birth to the girl Tuesday at the Santa Casa de Misericordia hospital in the nearby city of Araxa, according to a police statement.
It said the hospital reported that the baby died moments after being born and her body was sent to a funeral home. As the undertaker was preparing it for burial, the girl started crying.

The baby was rushed back to the hospital and was then transferred to a neonatal intensive care unit at the Hospital das Clinicas in the city of Uberaba."

2 months premie to a 14 year old mother, probably a blessing.

Do they practice autopsies in Canada for newborn baby deaths? Just wondering if there are different laws on this matter between Canada and Brazil.

Always thought blood was removed as well before one is laid to rest.

Having read the story again, its Brazil! why the hell is this news?, I assumed this was California.

Is it news that hospitals are not very good in the third world.

Our baby was autopsied but it wasn't mandatory as far as I can recall.

Brazil isn't exactly the third world. They're actually above the world average in terms of GDP per capita.

[Edit]
Unless you mean "Third World" in the Cold War sense (countries not aligned with either NATO or the Soviet Bloc), in which case that is true of Brazil, but most people don't use the term "third world" that way. Usually they're referring to poor, pre-industrial countries with very low per capita GDP.

Ironically enough, there is a story in the latest Economist about the Brazilian health care system...

I think a pregnant 14 year old from the depths of a Sao Paulo flavella is third world in all practical senses.
