Default WTB: Socket 939 processor

Looking for an X2 4200-4800 socket 939 processor with heatsink, or an Opteron 175 would work as well as long as it's 939.

Thanks.

At this point, I would recommend that you upgrade your system to a more updated platform. The higher end S939 processors are quite rare and expensive despite their age, they are usually in demand because of systems or servers that cannot be as easily replaced as a home desktop.

Otherwise, find a cheaper one (3800+ perhaps) and overclock it. My old X2 3800+ does 2.6GHz easily.

Yeah, just trying not to spend too much so junior can play Starcraft2 with what he has now. The old Athlon 3500 single core just won't do it.

Alternatively, if anybody has a motherboard that takes DDR and a decent dual core cpu, that might interest me as well.

I know you wanted a 939, but I have an AM2 4800+ dual core already mounted on a generic motherboard, with a stock fan. It was never overclocked, I bought it new last year because I had all the other components to build a computer for temporary use. Let me know if you are interested.

I believe it's PC5300, but I will check tomorrow when I return to Calgary. EDIT: MB has 4 DDRII slots, PC5300. Also, one each of PCIe x1 and PCIe x16 plus two PCI. Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks, but I'm trying to reuse as much as possible, and the motherboard I have now uses regular DDR, not DDR2.

You are not going to find any board and dual core CPU that accomodates DDR aside from the S939 setup that you already have unfortunately.
