Default Confirmed: CF-18 Crashes in Lethbridge

No word on pilot's condition, but he is believed to have ejected.

Source: My in-laws work on the Lethbridge Airport property and heard 'thumping' kind of sound which was soon followed by a massive fireball.

The highway on the E side of the airport is jammed w/ traffic now.

I heard him making a HUGE racket over my house yesterday morning, I'm maybe a mile and a half from the airport. Been silent this morning. This is the first I'm hearing of this.

He would have been doing practice runs I guess.

Pretty much sound proof where I've been. Now upstairs. Sirens everywhere, still... Can see smoke out the window. There was apparently a large fireball. Word is he ejected and was unconscious, but now okay. Trucks from all over town responded. RCMP and LRPS trying to contain people that are trying to get a glimpse. I'll update if I hear anything else.

my friend works at the college just down from the airport, saw it happen, they were doing runs for the show tomorrow and buzzing overhead for the last hour, he said he saw the cockpit blow and a pilot with a parachette come out but it was really low and he didnt think he would have made it...!!

Well this is Lethbridge's little bit of excitement for the year... it's still chaos out here. Highway 5 is closed in both directions, emergency vehicles are everywhere. I honestly didn't think we had this many.

When he was practicing yesterday morning he was MUCH lower over the residential areas than they have ever been. People apparently phoned into the airport/police to complain.

I wonder if this is the same CF-18 I saw depart YYC yesterday around noon? It would make sense.

I was in bed this morning on the westside when I heard a really loud low flying plane and my first thought was "Man, it sounds like a plane is going down". Crazy. Hopefully all involved are ok and this doesn't ruin the rest of the air show.

I'm thankful this didn't happen tomorrow when there will be like 10,000 people down there. The guy on CBC seems to think the show started today.

Some day they'll invent an ejection seat that doesn't nearly kill you when you eject from a plane.

Dude if you could see the remnants of this airplane... he's rather fortunate to have only 2 broken legs.

He ejected at 100m lucky they design those things to fire to high enough for your parachute to open.

Apparently there is footage of the accident - it is being turned over to RCMP and Military personnel.
