Default Renting a Car for 2-3 Months

Has anyone ever rented a car for a period of a few months?

I'm wondering what sort of costs there would be for this and if there's another option/good deals I'm not thinking of.

For that long of a period, you might as well buy a cheap used car.

90 day rental at National came out to $5500 for a Suzuki Swift (insurance, taxes, miles incl)

My advice would be to buy a car in the $5000 to $7000 range, drive it, and sell it.

Wow. That's nuts although it shouldn't be too surprising.

I have to rent a car frequently for work. The local Budget outlet across the street will usually rent me a small car for $32 per day, unlimited km. I had to get one last week during Stampede, however, and the same car was $109. When I asked why the price was so much higher, they were completely honest about it at least.

There are a few websites where you can take over someone's lease. Maybe you could take the lease for a couple months and then just put the car back on the website when you're done with it.

Pretty well the same approach as buying a car and then selling it again, except you'll probably get a newer car.

I just went on Travelocity; renting a car from most places is around $900-1000 per month; assuming you stay small.
