I have an 8 hour layover in LA tommorow: What should I do?
Anyone have any suggestions, allowing for time to get to/from LAX?

Go to Compton with a bucket of fried chicken, kool aid and a big watermelon. You'll be the most popular person in the city.

Probably not much time to do anything, unfortunately. Once you factor in how early you need to be there for your next flight, travel to and from the airport, and a bit of a time buffer just to be safe, you're probably not going to be left with much.
I'd probably just find an airport restaurant/lounge and get loaded.

In-N-Out Burger
9149 South Sepulveda Boulevard
EDIT: You can also bus it to Santa Monica Pier -- take the "Big Blue Bus" from LAX (I think its the number 3 line).

Take any suggestion from the thread, flag a cab and sit in traffic for 7 hours

Rent a car, drive downtown and ask a hooker for directions to anywhere. Then let the story unfold itself

Find a broom closet and spend 8 hours having solo fun while hoping the janitor doesn't return.

Plan your next trip to not go through LAX. Worst airport experience I've ever had, and I've seen a lot of airports.

Try to make general conversation with the locals and see how many times you can have your life threatened

Just to avoid future editing.
My suggestion would be to purchase two bandanas and a handgun. Wear the blue one in one part of town whilst firing wildly into the air.
Then flee to another part of town, deftly swapping bandanas to the red one with aggravated gentlemen in hot pursuit.
Try this, I assure endless hours of non-stop entertainment marred only by mild bloodshed and minor law enforcement paperwork requirements.

I was just there in May, personally I think LA is a dump. About the only enjoyable thing to do during the day would be the Pier or driving around Beverly Hills.

The Compton suggestions are hilarious, mainly because I had a layover in Los Angeles a couple years ago, and visited the neighbourhood like some are suggesting... without knowing it.

I’d suggest go to a church and pray, but who knows, maybe the doors will be locked.

LAX is horrible. It's old, constantly under construction, and there's surprising very little to choose from as far as good restaurants / bars go. It's a hole.
That said with the travel time and your window to get back and checked in.. you aren't left with a lot of options.
LAX is in Inglewood which isn't a very interesting area either.
Bring a book.

I recommend Papa John's Pizza.
