Is it just me or are some of his key presses even pointless?

For example, when he is placing a building, what possible key strokes can he be performing at the same time? Yet, he's just blasting away at the keyboard.

Lol, maybe if he stops his fingers will freeze up and he'll never be able to start again.

I heard that a lot of those key presses really don't do anything. But they keep pressing it in order to keep the rhythm going. I guess they've played so much that they've trained their finger movements to kind of do things without needing to think, kind of like playing the guitar or piano. Now that's some serious gaming. But then, some of these guys do this for a living, so I guess it's like job training.

That's why I quit playing RTS. It's just not fun anymore when you get to the point that playing the game is less about how well you can plan and strategize but how fast you can manually do hundreds of things at the same time.

What the RTS genre needs is armies that are made of multiple players that each take on a job, maybe only two players would be enough. One player manages the macro and one player manages the micro.

I understand a lot of people enjoy the direct control but I would prefer an option to give me more automation and AI that is optional.

Easy, play on Canadian/American servers. Avoid the Koreans/Japanese and all cost, then we won't get raped within minutes.

Company of Heroes does a little of that, in that each player can specialize in a different aspect of the battle, such as airborne, anti-tank, defense, etc. My friends and I enjoy co-op skirmishes against the computer as much as fighting each other multiplayer.

I am asian, I need to represent.

Jokes.

I wouldn't touch this game with a 10 foot poll. Just like Warcraft 3, I'll buy it in 5 years when the warchest is out at discount so I can play custom maps and custom games. Nothing beats Warcraft 3 custom games like Tower Defense, Mauls, Survival, Peon Olympics, Cart Racing, Battletanks, Castle Defend, Castlevania Adventure, etc.

There are guys on the American servers that are just as good, if not in the same numbers with the same creativity as the Korean servers. The game will actually match you up against guys with the same skill due to the ranking system so theoretically, you would have to go out of your way to get raped.

If you're playing SC2 the odds are you're not playing a Korean with mad APM. You can watch your replay and it shows the APM tab.

99% of the time this isn't why you lost in an online RTS.

I've watched a number of my replays and the highest average APM I saw was 100ish.

Yeah. And after your placement you get matched up against guys of the same skill level not the pros.

RTS games can be so intimidating to the beginner which is unfortunate because I think they're a lot more exciting and dynamic than many FPS games.

i hate playing RTS games online because i can see my death coming long ahead of when i'm actually toast, and it's a painful ride. i prefer FPS games where i get shot, respawn, then get right back at it

I only really play Age of Empires 3 for my RTS fix, but I only play by myself against AI's. I know if I go online I will get smoked within minutes.

Online play is where it's at! I can't remember if AoE3 did any ranking but Blizzard is pretty good for challenging you while protecting you from the pros.
