Default Rational Rose... Really?

So is Rational Rose still the industry standard UML tool?

(Or am I just being taught something that people used to use, and the tech world has moved on to Visio?)

Edit: I'm not complaining, or anything. Regardless of which tool I learn with, UML is still UML. It's all transferable... I'm just curious if this is actually what companies are using.

Pfft. I LMAO about the name of Ubuntu's next distribution before I realized you were talking about something else.

I think I actually used it once for a company, but otherwise I've never seen it used. Gotta have some bucks to use it.

I used it more for school than I have at work. Haven't heard of anyone else I know using it either.

So would you guys say I'm better off just using Visio for my on-the-side learning projects... leaving Rational for the class room then?

We use Visio for all our in house stuff @ work. Not that we have a huge dev team or anything so it probably isn't a good measure.

UML and the Rational Unified Process are quite out of fashion these days. Agile like processes like SCRUM is really the direction a lot of companies are moving towards.

UML is what you need to learn - Rational Rose is merely a tool that helps out.

From my own limited experience, Visio is a much easier tool to use then anything Rational (IBM) puts out.

Too be honest though, I hate using a tool to do UML. The only time I've had to produce UML for others was in school - otherwise I simply draw the diagrams out on paper for my own reference. I've yet to work in a place that actually makes UML part of their development practice.
