Hey car guys, just had a question. I tried to explain this over the phone to the guy at the window tinting shop but he couldn't wrap his pea-brain around what I was trying to explain.
Basically, we have a new Ford Focus Wagon with tinted windows. I was picking up painting supplies at the paint store and while loading my roller extension pole in the back of the wagon, I scratched the bejeezus out of the tint job.
Is there any way to fix this or re-tint the window? It seems like quite a permanent thing, so I'm thinking I'm screwed. Any thoughts?

Pretty sure it's possible to re-tint. I know dealerships will take the tint off the front two windows when they get cars so it must be possible to remove it.

Totally possible but it costs a heck of a lot more than putting it on as it's a pain in the arse to do (peeling then, removing all the adhesive from the last tint job)

It it's the factory tint, me thinks it would be a lot tougher to do... But maybe they can touch up the area a bit.

Factory tint is permeated in the glass and can't be scratched
Costs a shinguardload to replace those windows if they break though...

I'm not so sure about that. It's pretty routine where I live for a guy to get a tint ticket, insisting that he removes the tint from the window. Not once have I ever heard of any cost these guys have been forced to pay, or any trouble they went through during the process of removing it.

Tint is a film that goes directly onto the glass. All they have to do is to strip the tint off and reapply and new sheet. Its not rocket science. Unfortunately they may have to do ALL the windows so the tint matches up, otherwise you're likely to get an odd ball window that doesn't match up with the others.

It quickly becomes rocket science if it starts to pull off your rear defrost lines when you are removing it...

Thanks guys. I think I'll have to take it in so they can see it. The tint was done at the dealership but its an "aftermarket" tint. The guy on the phone just didn't speak enough english to help me out. Hopefully they can repair it.
Thanks again for all the help.

Try the Car Salon just off 32nd Avenue. Ask for Gary, he will give you the goods on what your needs are. They do splice pieces for curved windows, so they may be able to help you just remove a little bit if they have matching tint. Otherwise since it is the backwindow, go to a darker shdeing and you won't notice it as much.
