What kind of Owl is this?
An owl seems to have decided to settle in the neighborhood recently. They seem to be the same ones that settled here last year. I'm curious what species they are. (My dad seems to think it's a Great Horned Owl).
I have more pictures if anybody wants more images.

You're lucky to have him as a neighbor! Owls are all kinds of awesome.

Hells yeah. I think I have only seen a few owls in my life, and one of them was dead on the road. Just a massive wingspan.

When I was a kid, I went out to get eggs one morning and there was one of these bad boys that had somehow gotten caught in the henhouse. Scared the hell out of me.

We have a GHO at our airport that likes to buzz the windshield of the vehicle when we're doing our late night runway inspections. Scares the bejeezus out of me every time, they are huge!

I came face to face with one of these in Fish Creek a little while ago. If it hadn't swivelled its head I would have missed it as it was so well camouflaged. My dog and I stood about eight feet away from it and just looked at for quite a while before it flew off. I couldn't believe how big it was - the first owl I had seen in Canada - I was only used to our much smaller Tawny Owl back in England.

I had one do this during the day, at first I thought it wasn't watching were it was flying but it started happening far too often to be accidental.
One time it got a little too close and clipped the front of my hood just enough to crash into the snow drift and quickly jump up as if nothing happened.
