Default Antibody Kills 91% of HIV Strains

Potentially great news...

In a significant step toward an AIDS vaccine, U.S. government scientists have discovered three powerful antibodies, the strongest of which neutralizes 91% of HIV strains, more than any AIDS antibody yet discovered.

That would be fabulous if they can create a vaccine that can stop aids, but HIV is a slippery little that adapts and changes very quickly.

Great news if they can use it as a preventative or even therapeutic vaccine to people already suffering from the disease.

^ Even Condoms don't protect against some strains.

When it comes to AIDS, don't even do it at all. Condom's aren't foolproof either.

If used correctly and without breakage, condoms protect against all strains of the HIV virus. Accidents happen, however.

Consistent and correct use of the male latex condom reduces the risk of sexually transmitted disease (STD) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission. However, condom use cannot provide absolute protection against any STD. The most reliable ways to avoid transmission of STDs are to abstain from sexual activity, or to be in a long-term mutually monogamous relationship with an uninfected partner. However, many infected persons may be unaware of their infection because STDs often are asymptomatic and unrecognized.

Well, that's what I mean about breakages or slippages. As well, I think STDs that can pass through the skin like chlamidya aren't prevented by condoms.

EDIT: The Body is a really great site. Lots of good articles etc...

I fear that with an HIV vaccine, people will be like, "I can't get da AIDS?! No condomz for meh!!!"

Then every other STD will increase tenfold.

Or it will just cause HIV to continue mutating into something the vaccine can't prevent.

Why, is the Vatican against curing HIV infections?
