Boat Captain hired by BP for cleanup commits suicide.
http://www.thenation.com/blog/36570/...ommits-suicide
Just tragic. Aside from the deaths in the initial explosion we have the first of what is sure to be many lives lost due to mental illness and depression. Caused by the overwhelming hopelessness and loss of livelihoods that this disaster has and is creating. My thoughts go out to the friends and family of this poor soul.

Very sad, BP should foot the bill for his funeral.

Those responsible for the oil leak should should put a gun to their head and pull the trigger.
Yet, in a very philisophical way- aren't we all to blame? (puts gun to head)

He kiiled himself because the oil leak has caused him to lose money since he couldn't fish in the waters anymore.
BP should be fully responsible for ruining their businesses.

It would create quite the precedent though... I mean, now you have fishers thinking if they just off themselves, their family will be better off as BP will foot the bill.
I wouldn't do it if I was BP.

I'm certain that BP will be handling numerous claims over the economic damage caused by this. Effectively, this would be asking BP to pay for this man twice.

If they give the family money they should do it privately.

I don't think there is going to be a major problem with suicides among fisherman if BP pays for his funeral.
If people want to kill themselves and have their family looked after for the rest of their lives they can just hop into a car and drive into the nearest pole.
BP should be responsible for ruining the business and lives of these fisherman who can no longer make a living in the Gulf because of BP's oil spill.

It already is being held responsible.
Beyond that, it is sad that this man chose to end his life rather than look at alternatives, but BP cannot be held responsible for his own choice.

Yah, and I agree that they shouldn't be blamed for him killing himself, but they should atleast have to compensate for the money that was lost when his business failed because of BP's mistake.
It mentioned in the article he had health poblems so maybe that played a bigger role than they are leading on.

How many bloody times does it need to be repeated that BP is already dealing with claims related to the economic damage from this?
