I just got finished watching this HBO miniseries for the second time, and am strongly considering watching it again for the third. I can't really put into words how amazing the series actually is. If you've seen it, you probably agree. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favour and go and buy it. Such an inspirational piece of work, to say the least.

Apparently the same people are making another mini-series, based on the Pacific War.

I watched the mini-series on DVD last year and was just thinking yesterday that I wanted to put some time aside to rewatch it again. The entire series was masterful work and really quite amazing.

Amazing show. I've seen it twice through now. People who think David Schwimmer is a one dimensional actor need to see it. The additions from the real men from Easy company are excellent.

They are also talk about making the show a weekly tv series of some sort.

Great series. You arelly aren't going wrong with that one. I wish they would make another one about the war in the Pacific.

I have seen the episodes over and over again.
Lost track of how many times I have seen that series.
It is a brilliant series though.

At the D-Day Museum in New Orleans, they have first hand accounts of people that where there. Including Cpt. Winters.
Just seeing what the soldiers on the ground had to deal with, even if it is a re-creating is awe inspiring. If you are ever in the area, and are a WWII buff, it is definately a place to check out.

i must have watched this over a dozen times, it is the single greatest war movie/tv show/etc ever made, made even more powerful by being a true story. i consider myself a strong willed person, and i never get emotional from watching movies. but whenever i see the last scene in the series with the real Richard Winters, and he talks about his grandson asking if he was a hero in the war ("No, but i served in a company of heroes") i weep like a little girl

Absolutely agree. I have been wanting to buy this for some time, now reading this thread, I will have the bug again. I will check Ebay, thanks for the tip. Very emotional, very well done series.
Saving Private Ryan, also an excellent movie.
My Dad is a WWII veteran, was in the raid on Dieppe, captured and spent the rest of the war as a POW. He went back to Dieppe last year, probably for the last time, as they installed a new monument there for the Essex Scottish Regiment. Very moving and emotional ceremony.
I will pick up a copy of Stephen Ambrose's book.

Ya I've seen it four or five times. Every leader in the army should be forced to watch it to see how Capt. Winters lead his men. Amazing. So many firefights and he lead the charge, right in front.

And how messed up was it when the actor for Capt. Winters started talking during the interviews on the bonus disc and he had a really thick Aussie accent?!?!

The British actor who played Capt. Winters, Damien Lewis, has actually, before and since, played some particularly distasteful individuals in various movies (the recent "An Unfinished Life" comes to mind, filmed in southern BC with Robert Redford) and on Masterpiece Theatre's "Poirot," completely the opposite of his Dick Winters character.

Reviving this thread.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ronald Speirs. Besides Winters, he is my other favorite in the Band of Brothers series. The guy is awesome in every sense of the word. When he was commanded to relieve Lieut Dike, he would rush into battle like a crazy person. Absolutely fearless.

Too bad Speirs passed away on April 11th. RIP Ronald Speirs.
