Ed McNally Dead
This was hidden in the beer thread, but I deserves his own thread.
I am still a big fan of Traditional, love a nice pint of the stuff.
I hope he was happy to see the company moving back closer to it's orignal vision.

Quote:
Big Rock Brewery founder Ed McNally has died at age 89.
McNally, a giant in Calgary’s business community and an early leader in the craft beer movement, founded Big Rock in 1985 at the age of 60. On the company’s website, McNally is quoted as having said at the time “I want to make the beers that I want to drink, not what will be popular.”
In addition to founding the now 30-year-old brewery, McNally was also the heart of Calgary’s famed Big Rock Eddies, a contest and awards gala that raises funds for charity while rewarding beer drinkers who can come up with the most creative ads about beer.
McNally retired from the brewery in 2012.
Prior to embarking on his brewing venture, Ed had already been an accomplished lawyer and barley farmer.
He was awarded both the Order of Canada and the Alberta Centennial Medal in 2005 and was inducted to the Calgary Business Hall of Fame in 2009. McNally was also very involved in the community, including many years of service with organizations such as Junior Achievement and the Alberta Barley Growers.
In a release, Big Rock President and Chief Executive Officer, Bob Sartor, expressed his sentiments on behalf of the entire Big Rock team: “Ed leaves behind a legacy larger than life and we will forever be grateful, not only for this great company he created, but also for the lasting impression he has left on the lives of everyone who had the privilege to know him.”

I remember when Big Rock was starting up. It's probably what got me hooked on drinking beers from small breweries. When I went to school in PEI I'd always take back a Big Rock variety pack every semester to share with my fellow dorm-rats.

I used to drink a lot of McNally's ale. Miss that stuff.
Condolences to the family. He seemed like a great guy the few times I met him.

We actually had our wedding at the Big Rock brewery, the food and (obviously) drinks were stellar.
RIP Ed.

We did a full research report on Big Rock company and stock behaviour a few years ago. I was quite impressed by how the company was managed and how solid its stock was.

I remember when I first met Ed. I didn't know who he was at the time and I was telling him that he shouldn't miss out by drinking a rum and coke and that he needed to have the best beer in the world, the Traditional Ale... He then asked me if I knew who he was and of course I said no I didn't. He then introduced himself with a sly smirk and all I could say to him after that was... I love you, man.
Enjoy the liquid beer up there, Ed.
Thank you,
TBQH
