Default Odd ebay bid pattern - opinions needed

Nevermind, I’m an idiot...

When did ebay start obscuring the ID’s of bidders? Maybe I just never noticed before...

I haven't used ebay in a couple years, but if the bidding went wack I just backed out right away.

Why would they obscure the ID of the bidder? I haven't looked at Ebay for a while, but the bidder, his ID, and his reputation are what closes a lot of 'sales.'

Apparently its to prevent a scam where I, as the buyer, get contacted by the scammer to wrap up the sale “off ebay” to save time/money/ebay fees, then they make off with your money.

They started anonymizing ebay usernames a few years ago, for the protection of users.

When I last used it the seller of the item can see all of the bidders reputation and the User name. It just obscures the bidders names to other bidders.

Yeah, I just never noticed I guess. I was only really paying attention this time because the item I was interested in was being sold by someone with a relatively small number of sales transactions.
