I love that this site has been made to exploit the "openness" of some people's Facebook profiles. It is search after sad, pathetic search.

Just go to facebook and go to search, change it to "Posts by everyone" and you get the same results.

This website search results don't show anything more than already available on facebook.com.

edit: I now see it's a website created to show just that. So uh... nevermind?

According to facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, we are all a bunch of dumb frucks for trusting him.

Look at the context of that email. He was nineteen, facebook was just at harvard, hardly the same application that is used the world over now.

Yeah, if you're going to judge a guy on what he said over instant messenger when he was 19 years old, you better be squeaky clean.

I highly doubt anything has changed.....facebook is obviously far from squeaky clean.

The only real issue with Facebook is that changes to their privacy policies are Opt Out rather than opt in.

If they changed that and just made sneaky aps that people would use which would require their privacy settings changed to use I would be fine with it.

Although I understand where facebook is coming from. Essentially they are providing a free service that chews up huge bandwidth and needs some way to make profit.

Exactly why I don't post anything on Facebook. I like it as a way to look at pictures and keep up with friends.

Its not Facebooks fault that all those idiots are posting on the 'public internet' that they hate their boss.

The reason I joined Facebook 3 years ago was because everyone is talking about how awesome it was. The reason I deleted my account yesterday is due to everything about Facebook is a privacy issue. I barely used it anymore anyways... so I decided to just pull the plug and be done with it.

The weird thing is, it did say that if I ever wanted back on Facebook, all I had to do was sign back in again. So does that mean my profile is not deleted? Is it archived? Archiving isn't deleting.

From the link TBQH posted...

Quote:
3. Facebook makes it incredibly difficult to truly delete your account. It's one thing to make data public or even mislead users about doing so; but where I really draw the line is that, once you decide you've had enough, it's pretty tricky to really delete your account. They make no promises about deleting your data and every application you've used may keep it as well. On top of that, account deletion is incredibly (and intentionally) confusing. When you go to your account settings, you're given an option to deactivate your account, which turns out not to be the same thing as deleting it. Deactivating means you can still be tagged in photos and be spammed by Facebook (you actually have to opt out of getting emails as part of the deactivation, an incredibly easy detail to overlook, since you think you're deleting your account). Finally, the moment you log back in, you're back like nothing ever happened! In fact, it's really not much different from not logging in for awhile. To actually delete your account, you have to find a link buried in the on-line help (by "buried" I mean it takes five clicks to get there). Or you can just click here. Basically, Facebook is trying to trick their users into allowing them to keep their data even after they've "deleted" their account.

See link above your post. You essentially logged out, and when you log in again it'll be like you never left. The link above gives directions how to DELETE.

Just read that. Looks like I only 'deactivated'. Guess what I'm doing now?

EDIT: So it asks me if I actually want to delete my account. I say yes. Then it asks me to enter in my password, and a random word generator (similar to ticketmaster). I do that. THEN, it says my account will be 'deactivated' for 14 days, then deleted, provided I don't log back in within the 14 days. You would think after all the effort to delete my account, I wouldn't want to log back in.

Mark Cuban pretty much sums up how I feel about Facebook privacy better than I could.

i tried the orignal link on myself and it did not return anything related to me.......anyways, i have nto paid a lot of attention to the FB privacy stuff - I guess I feel that the stuff I post on there is not overly private and I am smart enough not to diss my employer or co-workers in that fourum......

As long as you limit what you put on FB and update your privacy settings regularly, it's still a useful tool for keeping in touch with others

Moderation is key

Most people fail to realize anything and everything they put on the internet can be tracked and retrieved regardless of how safe they think their info is. It's the reality of digital age. Don't put anything on the internet you don't want people to see
