Southern Alberta eats...
A bunch of us are heading down to Southern Alberta and we'll need to make a pit stop along the way for food. We'll be going down Highway 2 so I'm thinking Nanton, Claresholm, or perhaps Fort MacLeod.
Any suggestions (aside from fast food and the 7-11 in Claresholm )? There are some pizza places along the way, but I've never heard of any of them...

StoneCole will 100% back me up on this.
The Chicken at the 7-11 in Claresholm is crazy good.
That being said, there used to be a place in Nanton called Bill's. It was a little burger joint on the side of the highway and they made really good burgers. I don't know if it's there anymore, but if it is I highly recomend it.

While not exactly fine dining, Durous in Claresholm has never disappointed.

And I would agree as well. 7-11 was always the pitstop of choice coming home from the Flames games.

LOL re: Claresholm 7-11 -- no need to convince me about their chicken -- just looking for other options

Is this a pizza joint? Not worried about fine dining -- just looking for some quick, decent grub instead of the usual fast food stuff (I figure if we call in advance it'll be ready by the time we get there).

7-11, Tim Hortons, Dairy Queen. 7-11 chicken is fabulous.
Roys Place as great breakfasts, really good other food choices too. Tim Hortons is exactly like you'd expect it.
A&W.
Actually, there is a Chinese place on mainstreet but I can't recall the name. Its not Hong Kong Gardens. The other one. They have really good food.
There is also a pretty good bar right behind Mac's.

Isn't Fort Mac the home of that beef jerky place?
Edit: Sorry, I'm thinking of Longview.

I don't think that Bill's place is there anymore....
There isn't anything that will blow your pants off... no secret hidden diners, drive-ins, and dive-type places, but Roy's isn't bad.

Yeah there's not much in terms of hidden places. It's pretty much just 7-11s and A&Ws.
The good news is Lethbridge is only 2 and a half hours down the road...

I always used to laugh going through Fort Macleod.... there was this restaurant called New Hong Kong Restaurant. I'm pretty sure it's still there, but it has been New Hong Kong restaurant for years!

Their pizza is quite good, but they have a full menu beyond pizza (although selection for a vegetarian is nil).
We have a bunch of family in the Lethbridge area and every 2 or 3 months we meet up halfway at Durous for a Sunday afternoon dinner.

Thanks guys. Will probably give Durous a try this time, but might check out Roy's next time.
Feel free to keep the suggestions coming though

work takes me to Fort MacLeod once in a while and I usually end up eating with the Town staff at the restaurant there called MacLeods. It has an English Redcoat on the sign and I think it's on the strip through town. The food has always been good. Might be worth a try.

I freaking LOVE Fort Macleod. I go every year for South Country Fair. Even if the food is only average (which it isn't, but don't go there looking for culinary masterpieces) the town itself is worth checking out. Maybe I'm just really weird, but there is something special about the place. Its the kind of place where it becomes more convenient to walk the three or four blocks to talk to someone than to use your cell phone!
If my dream of retiring in Germany fails, I wouldn't mind ending up there. Again, I don't know exactly what it is, but I freaking love that town.
And Joni Mitchell is from there.
