Default For the TOOL / A perfect circle fans

As I'm sure most of you know, APC performed a short setlist last night on Jimmy Kimmel. They played 'Weak and Powerless' which was broadcast, followed by Imagine and Judith.

It's honestly been one of my dreams to see these guys play together again. I became a fan just after they stopped touring. Tried to get tickets to seattle but they sold out in 30 seconds. Scalpers are selling 30$ face value tickets for 500+.

Fingers crossed they continue to tour next year. Anyway, here's what they played and it appears they haven't lost a step. A... 13th step if you will! (Sorry couldn't help it).

This is like Tool lite. Same exact sound except Danny Carey and Adams Jones are much better and Tool sounds much better.

Same exact sound as what exactly?
Every Tool album has a different sound/feel to it, same with APC albums.

As someone who owns every album by both bands, yes they really do.

TOOL is amazing. APC is good.

I have seen both bands live and both were excellent. There is no comparison between TOOL and APC because they are completely different. Not even remotely close.

To say that they are similar or Tool lite is incorrect because the only band member who performs with both is Maynard and he is not involved with the music-writing process at all. All he does is provide vocals once the music is complete, for both bands.

Every TOOL album is different and they get better every time.

You may want to fact check that. I am pretty sure he's contributed to a few songs for APC (most notable being Judith).

Oh I am sure he has helped with a few but for the most part he shows up and just does the vocals after the music is completed. Reason being, he doesn't want to write lyrics at the start only to have the music change multiple times. He would rather hear the completed first music and then write the lyrics. Facts come from many many interviews I have seen and read.

Bottom line, I am happy that APC is doing some touring and Maynard is keeping busy while (hopefully) the TOOL boys are writing music!

Has anyone seen "Blood into Wine" yet?

Yeah it was pretty interesting and had some funny moments. Maynard rules.

TOOL is the best live band I've seen and I've seen quite a few. Saw my 3rd TOOL concert this summer.

Seriously, you guys think this song differs from a Tool song? They are the same (not that that's a bad thing).

If I didn't know beforehand who the band was I would say Tool and I am a huge Tool fan.

I don't think it sounds like a Tool song. Tool is way more "prog rock" than a perfect circle. I don't think the arrangements of their songs are anything alike. The only common factor is the vocals.

His vocals are just too unique and they make both bands sound similar. If each band had different singers, the difference of the music would be quite clear.

Love Tool, like APC, which I'd definitely classify as Tool-lite -- the drums and bass aren't quite as forceful as Tool, IMO.

Nice to see James Iha back playing heavier music again. Mellon Collie is an album I still come back to regularly and invariably find something that fits whatever mood I'm in.

Really? I've always thought Undertow was their best. I wore that CD out and will hit next when their newer stuff comes up. To each their own I guess.

This song is similar to Tool, I think the fact the music is so layered with so much going on with the drums is like Tool, plus the same singer!

^ Good point. Keeping in mind that APC's setup is different than TOOL's conventional one singer/drummer/bass/guitarist.

As far as similarities in sound I would disagree that they are at all alike. Generally, the tuning for most songs are different, drum and bass contributions are completely different.

Personally, I'm in a completely different space when I listen to one band over the other.

I had no idea who A Perfect Circle was when I first heard them and I said "who is this Tool rip off?"
