Amazing turnout. Community Association estimated it at about 300. They set out extra chairs twice and then it was standing room only.
I had little glitch at beginning, by forgetting my name in the introduction.
But got into the grove after that. Really good feedback afterwards, lots of sign placements, couple new volunteers and even a donation.

Another great turnout tonight. Just guessing it was pushing 200.
Lots of mudslinging between candidates; not me of course.
While I was out at that my team got our latest video loaded to Youtube.

First Lady,
I just read about telephone town hall calls in the Toronto Star. Have you tried this technology? You call 10,000 voters in your ward, ask if they want to ask you questions directly over the phone right now - press 1 - and then you have a conference call. About 10% of the people stick around for 10 minutes - 1000 people in an hour long call is far better than 10 houses door to door.
I ran for city council in Vaughan a few years ago and I think if I had this new tech i could have reached far more voters than just going door to door. (no all candidates meetings in Vaughan at the time).
I have a lot of respect for those willing to put their name on the ballot and run a campaign. All the best to you.

The article did not say. It was being used mainly by Mayoral candidates, but was used by one city council candidate (equivalent to Alderman, but in this case for a much smaller city, about 300,000 people).
I would think the whole thing is based on the various numbers - how many phone numbers are called, how many press the initial button, how many stay on the line for 1,5,10 minutes.
I ran my campaign for less than $3,000, but it was not overly effective. The front runner likely spends close to 6x that. To be worthwhile for a local candidate it would have to cost less than 25 cents for the initial dial out and then less then a dollar fir everyone who stays on the call. A candidate could hit 1000 sure fire voters, confirm that 600 will vote for him, change the minds of 100, for less than $4,000 - might be worth it.
Right now the telephone town hall is being credited with Toronto Mayoral Candidate Rob Ford's early spring push to the top of the polls.

So any predections about which incumbant alderman will fall? If so, who will win?
I assume this is the defacto thread for all things aldermanic?

I really like the concept.... sort of like live blogging.
However, beyond my budget; unless some money angel comes out of the woodwork.

I don't buy into the "We need a complete sweep." I think for transition we need some carryover to aid continuity.

That's what I envisioned it to be. The Mayoralty race gets the bulk of attention and it's not until the last days that people start to look closer at the local rep.

^ I Think that we should do a prediction thread over next weekend? It would be a good wrap-up for everyone who has followed things over the past few months.

Well, as I said in an email to supporters last night:
I’m optimistic, but not overconfident. I’ve seen other candidates fall victim to thinking “they have it in the bag.”
In that respect I’m very much a realist and a loss on Monday night will not devastate me. A win though, will be indeed very sweet.
All 4 of my web commercials are on my blog now.

None as cool as yours though Vic.
All the best to you on Monday. Yours is the only Trustee race I will be paying attention to and will be rooting for you.

Damn, I wish I would have seen this back on the 3rd. I'm having a hard time differentiating all the candidates for Ward 4.

Thanks Jane! I was going to contact you privately as I've been endorsing you to people I know in your neck of the woods! A friend of mine who I hold in fairly high esteem is working on your campaign and definitely supporting you, and totally unprompted by me immediately threw your name out as the candidate he was voting for up there. (I'd prefer not to get into who that is, or how we know each other on a public forum...in case you know who I'm talking about).
Its funny because in a civic race where party politics doesn't come to bear at the forefront I can say that I'm hoping you win! I have to say that I prefer that type of politics.
I certainly don't feel comfortable at all in my race. The reality is that 8 people here are going to lose on Monday. I'm not the least bit ashamed to say that this will be a blow to my ego if I lose; it would mean that a lot of what I think I know about political campaigning is just plain wrong! I'm also a competitive guy in general, and don't like losing...especially when I try really hard! It won't be devastating, and I won't be jumping from the Calgary Tower if I lose, but it will hurt!
All of that being said I hope that we are both successful on Monday! Good luck, and I will trying to push more people in your ward to vote for you!
