StubHub: Reliable Way to Purchase Tickets?
A few friends and I are thinking of going down to NJ to watch a playoff game! (Round 2! Fingers crossed!)
(a friend of mine is a huge Devils fan)
I was looking at StubHub for purchasing tickets. Has anyone purchased tickets from there before? Had a good experience? Is it reliable? Would there be a better way of purchasing tickets?
I am just worried that Ticketmaster may sell out really quick.

I've bought and sold on there and yes, it is reliable.
But it is also more expensive, usually. Only use it if it's the only remaining option.

^^^I've found a few instances where people are not selling for very much at all above face value. In most instances, you're right, the prices are more inflated than the egos of Canucks fans!

I used it when a bunch of us went down to Seattle to catch a Seahawks game. Like JD said, it's an expensive option but it ended up being good for us as they had large blocks of tickets available together which was good for what we needed. I wouldn't have any worries doing business with them again.

I use it all the time for sold out Flames games. I would do it again next year.

We used it for a Jets/Bengals NFL game and it worked out perfectly.

Only way to buy tickets online if you can't get them from ticketmaster. I have heard horror stories from every other online retailer. You pay a bit more than somewhere like craiglist or eBay but you are less likely to be ripped off and even if you are Stubhub guarantees your money back.

I had an issue buying Flames tickets on Stubhub a few years back, they were never delivered and I wound up being told to meet one of the usual scalpers at the C-train station to pick them up (I guess stubhub worked something out with him). It was a pain in the ass, but at least when things went sour they made sure I had tickets before the game. I've since used them for a few other things and never had a problem, but those have always been big events where they have a stubhub office/pick-up location setup.

Thanks for your feedback everyone!
Is the "electronic delivery" a good idea if it is an option?

Yes, it will save you the $10-$25 FedEx fee you would normally pay to have hard tickets shipped to you

I always choose electronic delivery. Once tickets are emailed the hard tickets are voided. Even if the owner of the tickets called to get them replaced they would be turned down. I prefer to get my tickets that way all the time now after being screwed by some shady Craiglister in Phoenix.
Stubhub's fees are outrageous, but at least you know you're not going to lose your money. Ticket Exchange by Ticketmaster is also safe. The only problem there is season ticket holders can't sell for below face value, but its unlikely anyone would sell playoff tickets below face. Ticket Exchange fees are lower than Stubhub and they're just as safe.

The way I look at those fees is like an insurance policy. As someone mentioned they will either find you tickets from another source or give you your money back. But yes they are stupid, especially for prime events.

I have used StubHub for Red Sox tickets at Fenway, and the prices/fees were worth the peace of mind and the anticipation of the event which went along with the game.

They're the Devils, they rarely sell out unless it's Flyers or Rangers. Playoffs included.
But yeah, Stub Hub is probably the best way to buy tickets on the secondary market. I believe they guarantee each ticket's validity.

I have bought and sold through Stub Hub many times. Although the fees are higher than eBay or Razor Gator, it is, in my opinion, the best run ticket site out there. Everything is guaranteed by Stub Hub and the method receiving and giving payments in secure, timely and as advertised.

Games 1 and 2 were both sold out, although I realize they were against Philly, as were all the home games against Carolina last season. You can probably get tickets around the rink for a reasonable price, but the Devils do sell out playoff games. They don't play at the meadowlands anymore, people go to the Pru Center.

Expensive but reliable.
The closer you are to the date of the event and the more popular the event is, the more worthwhile it is to buy from StubHub and live with the extra fees, in my opinion.

It is reliable but a bit of a gamble. Remember stub hub only works as an intermediary between buyer and seller. They don't have the tickets. They just let the seller know you have bought the tickets. If the seller is lazy or forgetful or an ass, you could end up in some trouble like I nearly did outside of Yankee stadium. They have some sort of gaurantee, but really, you want to see the game right? That's the whole point. There is some risk involved.
