Default Joss Whedon to Direct Avengers Movie...

Been somewhat rumored for awhile now I guess, but it is coming closer to fruition.

http://www.deadline.com/2010/04/marv...-the-avengers/

Obviously the movie is still a few years down the road with Iron Man 2 this year, Thor in 2011, Captain America in 2012, so it may be 2013 when they finally release it.

In case you are not familiar with Whedon's work he was the creator of Buffy, Angel, Firefly, and most recently Dollhouse. His own movie of note was Serenity, and he was at the helm of Wonder Woman at one point.

He also has done work writing for Marvel comics Astonishing X-Men line.

I for one really like this move from Marvel. While his writing can be a bit cliche at times, he knows what the fans will expect, and won't make a mess of the series like Ratner did for X-Men.

With Christopher Nolan producing the Superman rebirth, and if Marvel does choose Whedon expect more great comic book movies soon.

Any other thoughts, or opinions?

I thought they were re-making that crappy movie based on the British TV show. Hopefully this one will come out better than that one did.

This will most likely be the most expensive movie ever made just from the actors salaries. Add the cost of everything else and that every scene will have special effects, this movie will well over $300M.

I thought the Hulk was supposed to be in the Avengers as well.

And She-Hulk ... Hotness

Really Hank Pym should be there too, although he was always an idiot and annoying.

I would like him to stick as close to the original as possible..

Ant-Man, The Hulk, Thor, Wasp, Iron Man and Cap would be my ideal roster, but I am also a fan of Vision and Hawkeye.. It could be cool if they start Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye off as villains like in the comics.. and work them into the team for some greater good goal.

It all gets confusing though being that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are Magneto's kids, how do you not mention that in the movie? Then you bring in the whole mutant twist.. and where are the X-Men then etc. etc.. gets complicated if you want to stay true to character origins. But I don't really think they have done that yet correctly in any super hero movie besides maybe Spiderman.

He'll be some neo-con commentator on the Avengers for FOX News.

Hopefully this will be better than the comics because the Avengers kinda suck.

Too bad DC is having so many problems with movie licenses, otherwise a Justice League movie will be the greatest comic book movie ever.

Like this, though I'm not a big fan of the Wasp, replace her with Hawkeye!

I'm a huge fan of the Scarlet Witch!

Considering Fox has the Xmen rights I wouldn't get to excited about Scarlett Witch. And even if they did include her they'd have to retcon the crap out of her.

Man, I do wonder if this is ever actually going to be made. There's just so many barriers.

This confirms there's hope though.

Unlike the Batman/Superman film everyone has been hoping for, but which DC/WB never seems to make a priority (yeah, no one wants to watch that).

Batman verses Superman is the Chinese Democracy of cinema.

The Avenger movie is going to have the original line-up plus Captain America, so you're looking at Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, Ant-man, Wasp and Captain America.

All of the core characters are expected to have solo-movies out before The Avengers come out with Ant-man and Wasp likely sharing a movie, what with the same-ish powers and abusive marriage schtick.

I dont think itll be that crazy. I think thats their reasoning for casting slightly lesser known actors. RDJ will probably have the biggest payday, followed by Evans and Hemsworth. Norton is out as Hulk and its rumoured that if Hulk is involved he'll be purely in CGI form. There are movies made for less with more star studded casts, the Dark Knight for one.

No he's not, they're just not doing the sequel as planned. That doesn't mean he wouldn't play Bruce Banner in an Avenger film. That said, any screen time he had would be short as he'd be spending most of his time as the Hulk.

The problem with a Batman/Superman movie, or any JLA movie, is they can't fit Christian Bales Ego in with the rest of the cast.

according to this article youre right, although you'd think if he doesnt want to do anymore Hulk movies, there's no reason to think he'd do The Avengers.

In all fairness if I was as awesome as Christian Bale I'd have a huge ego too.
