Anyone have a murphy bed at home? We are talking about expanding the family again and to do that our guests that periodically stay with us will have to move to our developed basement. I'm wondering if a wall unit with a murphy bed is the way to go here. Based on the last home show, prices are high - upwards of 10g IIRC.
I too, am interested in them. Ten Large sounds high. I thought they were more around the 1-2G range.
I wonder if Lee Valley sells kits?

Depending on the finish (paint grade or stain grade) and type of wood, the lumber should be less than the hardware. You can build a Queen with that hardware kit, but the spring says it will work up to a double.
The kit also mentions needing 7'4 height clearance.

I had one growing up. My only problem was that with pillows and bedding it didn't fold up well. The bed had to be de-sheeted to get it to fit, so I just never really used it.
I was looking at this as well. There's a company called Innovative Bed Systems in Airdrie (where I reside) that I've been talking to. They sell some interesting concepts, which are more than just wall and bed. But, as noted in the thread, you're still looking at $1k-2k, without mattress.
