Default Getting into paintball

Played paintball for the first time this past weekend and really enjoyed it. Really want to get into it more.

Just curious what people have to say about gear (masks, camo gear) and guns for a reasonable starter that are decently accurate and better than rental gear.

Thanks

If you pay the extra 10-15$ to upgrade the gun you are going to get something good enough for any casual playing.

Unless you plan on going solo and hoping to join groups (Who will then turn on you!) the hardest part of paintball is getting people out

They make pretty good stuff. I've been out of paintball for a few years now but the Tippmann markers were some of the best around when I played. The 98 Custom is a very reliable marker and the prices have really come down - I think you can even get them at Wal-Mart now.

I had one experience with paintball, rented the 2nd most expensive gun. But the accuracy was horrible.

Maybe it comes from years of LaserQuest experience. Too bad laser tag isn't as cool

I have a A5 with a special ops long barrel and a smaller hopper. I have not went through with the e trigger mod or any others as for me I feel the marker doesn't need it. It's been fantastic... no issues with balls exploding in the cyclone feeder or in the barrel. Its been as reliable as I could have hoped (never had to do any work other than taking it apart and cleaning it, which is a easy job) and above all...

...it pwns n00bz.

I'd recommend a A5 for sure. Other than that protect your eyes, protect your boys.

Gopher holes ruined my paintball career, if only I started with indoors.

Funny story about wearing a cup. A whole crew of us went paintballing, including my best friend (Chad) and his younger brother (Brandon). All day, Chad was running his mouth about how he wasn't going to take any mercies because he wasn't a &*)()!@!@ or something along those lines. So towards the end of the day, the two brothers are on separate teams. So I'm up in a tower and I'm watching Brandon (who is on the other team) swinging around on Chad, who is crouched behind a bunker made out of bales. Now, Chad had been yapping all day, so I didn't bother telling him what was about to happen. Brandon gets behind Chad and fires one shot, and all we hear is this blood-curdling scream. We quit playing because Chad's in obvious pain, and go out to the staging area. Ends up Brandon hit Chad square in the balls, and pinched them against his can. He actually ended up going to the hospital due to the fact that he was bleeding from his nuts. They still remember us when we go to play at that field.

So the moral of the story is, if you're going to wear a can, don't be a hero and take the mercy.

As for guns, I've got a 98 Custom...I've had it for 5 years or so now, and it's stood up beautifully. If I were you though, I'd buy a good mask before you buy a gun. The guns at the fields aren't bad, but I've found masks to be terrible. They fog up really easy and are just uncomfortable in general. I've got a V-Force mask that is awesome.

Gun really depends on what kind of paintball your playing. If your playing woodsball then yes tippmanns would be great .... If your playing speed ball you might look into another gun. Ions work for beginners in speed ball but you can get a lot better guns for paying just a lil bit more than an ion!

PM me if you have any questions!

Would be more into the woodsball, not speed ball.

I obviously know of the helmet, and gloves, and all that ... and to earlier mention, mays well get the gun as well, can get an A5 for around 200

Try airsoft. I went to this last year. Got to ride a hummer while shooting people in the face.

That's all kinds of awesome. I've never tried airsoft but that looks amazing. Probably some serious investment in gear judging by some of those guys.

Make sure you get a good group of people. I go with a bunch of guys and most of them all cheat. My boss shot someone 9 times and he just ran away (this bugger was in his 30-40's too), and then he ends up getting behind my boss and shooting him from 5 feet away. I got semi-revenge as his kid came too (maybe 11 years old) and he was just sitting in the open (he was dead but didn't go outside), so I shot him maybe 30+ times. He kept screaming and yelling.

The guys I go with are so dumb when they die they go to their base, they go in the back and just stand there WITHOUT masks. Now this is pretty bad for me as the rest of their team (3 of them) were camping in their spawn in a building. How am I supposed to shoot the guys in the building when I have a chance at taking someone's eye out? Just plain idiocy. If I wanted to I could have put 3 of them in the hospital but I couldn't live with the guilt so I decided to quit.

I shot a guy square in the face by accident when he was walking off (his buddy was behind him, he walked in front while I was in cover), it was funny because I shot 2 bullets and his facemask got totally lit up with paint. So glad he actually had his mask on.

Unrelated to paintball, but semi-to-the-point. I find a lot of paintballers to be cocky d-bags. Not sure why but it seems to be the case. Ex. I went to sit down on a log, there was a guys gun behind it (his own) WHICH I SAW, and I went to sit down (totally missing his gun), then he yells at me "WATCH WHERE YOUR SITTING!!!"

I told him "ok, I saw it", then he goes "better watch where your sitting, you don't have the money to replace this".

Me being nice I let it go but seriously, if your spending over $5,000 on a fataing paintball gun your nuts.
