Default Divx / Avi on iPhone?

I have some divx avi files that I would like to import onto my iPhone to occupy my kids on the plane.

From looking around, it seems the iPhone cannot directly play divx avi files. I tried to export them to .mov or .mp4 with a program called StreamClip, but it didnt work (I got sound but no video).

What is the best way to get these avi files to play on my iPhone?

I would use a program called Handbrake and encode them to the proper iPhone video format. There is preset for the iPhone that will select the correct settings.

Handbrake is pretty much the gold standard for converting videos into ipod friendly formats.

Any Video Converter. Works perfectly for converting to mp4 format for playback on your iPhone. I use it all the time. There hasn't been a format I've thrown at it, that it can't convert. Best of all, it's FREE!

Other options I've used are Videora and Vuze.

I have had Handbrake fail for me only once. Love the program and use it constantly

So what am I doing wrong with Handbrake? Does it not handle certain My video always comes out crazy pixelated like it is a 40X30 resolution. I convert a good quality (700meg 1 hour show) xvid avi to a mp4 file in h.264 using the constant quality option at default setting (about 60%?). I use 640 X 272 resolution.

Am I missing something? It happens on about 90% of the files I convert. I never transfer them to my iPod, but just play them in VLC and they look crazy bad.

Do you have the latest version? I had problems with .mkv files before the latest upgrade but it works now quite nicely. Are you using the ipod preset?

I took a quick look and HandBreak after you guys posted here, but Any Video Converter doesn't bring up a command window and is tons faster. Quality looks the same to me.

Videora (for Windows) is super easy and does a good job.

I have tried a few presets, including the regular ipod.

I assume it is the latest version, it was installed in the last couple months.
