i notice today that by Tim Hortons on 5th Avenue and 4th st, there would be about 50 motorcycles parked in between buildings in the summer.. today, not even 1, i look and they have barricaded the space so nobody can park their bike there. On the way back to Bow Valley square, i notice bikes parked and the parkade is charging 7.00$ a piece.. Is there anywhere you can park a bike for free anymore downtown or has the city decided that they dont get enough in gouging people for parking downtown??

Motorcycles dont deserve to park for free where cars cannot.

Then again, I hate about 90% of motorcyclists on the road. I've p*ssed off countless a-holes on bikes by blocking their attempts to run up the entire length of Deerfoot on the shoulder when an accident blocks traffic. If I'm not going, you are going.

I agree... just because a motorcycle can fit in places where cars can't I do not think that they deserve to park for free when anyone that drives a car parks downtown has to pay upwards to $14 a day.

Agree... motorcycles are considered a vehicle and shouldn't have privileges that others don't have.

When I used to be a flagperson on the hwy's, motorcycles would come to the front of the line when I had traffic stopped and try to skip everyone. When that happened I told them to pull it on the shoulder and made them wait until the end of the line went through. It p*ssed them off, but it also p*ssed off the others waiting in line when they tried that.

Why shouldn't a bike be allowed to bypass an accident?

If the guy cutting lanes, or riding up the shoulder (where a car can't fit) is going to cause a further delay for other motorists then I agree, he shouldn't be able to do it. But if all he is doing is going up the shoulder and merging intot he light traffic after the accident (without causing further delay) why shouldn't he be able to? If he get's out of the way, it makes things faster for everyone behind him (marginally, but still every little bit counts).

Honestly, the just because I have to wait he should have to arguement is stupid. If one usher at the saddledome is stupid and can't work the scanner, should everyone at every other usher have to wait to get in because the people at the stupid usher have to? No. do you get p*ssed off when people waiting for that usher go to another usher while you wait for the ###### to scan your ticket? No.

Seriously, in California, it's actually legal for bikes to split lanes in traffic jams (when it's safe to do so) for the simple reason that they are able to get out, and getting them out makes the problem worse.

Edit: I agree with BlackArcher. They shouldn't be able to blatently jump the line in situations like that. But when traffic isn't moving, and a bike can SAFELY get out of the jumble, is a whole different story.

FYI, when you park your motorcycle at a meter, make sure you are very close to the meter. If another motorcycle 'shares' your spot, the one thats closest to the meter will not get the ticket. A friend got a ticket although he plugged the meter!
