Habs clinch Presidents Trophy
With the Habs win today coupled with the Wild loss to the Blue Jackets, we have clinched the CPHL Presidents Trophy this year. I was expecting the Habs to have a rebound year after last year's rebuild, but I didn't expect this much success. GM Simmer had this to say:
"I'm pleased for the team, this is definitely a huge honour. But in 2 games it means absolutely nothing, that's when the real season begins. The Eastern Conference is very difficult and the lower seeds could easily knock out the top seeds so we need to be on top of our game."

East has 8 strong teams this year. In the old SIM an upset definitely could have happened. I don't think upsets will be as common with this SIM though.

True enough, the 9th place team was no slouch this year either.

Habs pretty much won this going coast to coast. I thought I might have a chance to catch up with a late season run but they were just too far ahead.
The cap bonus is important for a team like Montreal that wants to keep their core in place.
Congrats!

It's looking like I'm playing either you or the Pens...I hope your Magic 8 Ball is wrong!
I sure didn't know about the cap bonus, that'll definitely help the situation next year.

Yikes, that's the SIM kiss of death. In this league, only the 02/03 Bruins and the 05/06 Thrashers (both GM'd by Cheese) have won both the Presidents, and the CPHL Championship. I don't think I've seen it happen in any other league.
So, yes, it's happened before. But it's more likely you're done in 2 rounds.
CONGRATS!

Congrats! You deserve it 100% after having the best team from start to finish. Montreal is going to be the favorite heading into the playoffs. Kudos! I won it in 2007-2008 but then lost in the 1st round to the Nordiques in 7 games. That was my most disappointing season as I had the team to go deep. I believe all the bottom teams won their playoff rounds that year (5 through 8). Anyways, I hope you get better luck in the 1st round (as long as you don't play me in the opening round lol). Congrats again!
